Yeah - I use to be afraid to take a shower when I was home alone as I always had that feeling that some one was out there - waiting for me as he did when I was a child and took my baths.

I am 40 years old now - but when I was in my twenties I use to still be afraid of the dark..... as they (men that abused me) always can in the dark.

I am doing better now.

Interesting: I, too, have a problem here but for other reasons. Was told that sometimes when folk have nervous breakdowns they display this as just one of many new symptoms, so let's say it isn't unknown. I'm personally affected by this (and I'm a man). I'm slowly getting back to normal in this respect because I have a very understanding wife, but am home alone because I'm scared to go out. Wishing you well.

I can't shower home alone after dark. I also can't listen to music on headphones when I am alone, or watch tv or listen to the stereo too loud, either. The fear is pervasive.

Good thread - a lot of this is common for me also; fear of the dark, being home alone in general and jumping at noises, I do not shower after dark - never really thought about why. I also do not sleep on my back much - too scary. If I do not have a percise destination to go to, I don't go out -I don't know why, the tension is just too much. I'll even putting off going to the store or filling the gas tank unless I'm already out to or from work. And i can't do yoga next to guys (since a lot is on our back or exposed in some pose) and i can't do some of the mor exposing poses ever no matter who is there. But i can do them at home. I also, keep volumes down low so i can hear over them for any odd sound. I will watch movies, but no head phones when alone.
