I have gone to my first AA meeting. I was terrified and anxious about going, I never really believed I was an alcoholic. For years I lied to myself about my addiction.

I had a good experience though, and will be starting my 12 steps.
4 days sober

Hello dear Perfectllyflawed and I'd like to offer you a big warm WELCOME to Psych Central. This is a great supportive place where you can meet new people, make new friends and share with folk who are going through the same things as yourself.

I really want to CONGRATULATE you on going to your first AA meeting, it's the start of a different life you know. Even if you are still scared, and lets face it, it is scary. You've taken the first step to the rest of your life. And you're FOUR DAYS IN!! !!! I have also been through both AA and AL a~non and they were fantastic groups, there was no way that I could go through de~tox and re~hab with no follow~up. Interesting enough, in the past I've also needed O.A. That's over eaters anonamos, I still go to the odd meetings, especially when I'm feeling not so good. Anyways hunny, keep going as you are and life really DOES get better, although it may not feel like it now. You can always messahe me if you'd like a chat.

I'm glad for you, Perfectlyflawed. How is it going? I'm going to start going to meetings again because I'm now getting treated for alcoholism and depression. Part of the journey is the support from others who are going through the same struggles. I finally accepted this and have faith I will succeed. Hope you are doing well!

i'm in AA and it's what keeps me sober for sure. I have no hope without it. I have about 5 months sober and the days are getting easier. Thank you for starting this thread.

Try to start getting phone numbers of other sober people. It's hard to walk up to someone you don't know and ask for their number, harder still to make those calls to people you don't know. Very, very worth it. I now have three or four people i speak to regularly and I get rides to and from meetings sometimes and have people to talk to about my day, good or bad.

Have a good sober day.
