Just picked up my one year chip! It was a long, hard year. I started out unconscious at the ER having consumed a bunch of klonipin and alcohol. I stayed at that hospital and went through their detox. I had been there before several times. I agreed to go to a 30 day rehab in Fl. Hazelden. It meant leaving my kids at Christmas and I didn't want to go didn't think I deserved to go but I was told a window of opportunity like that only comes around once and you have to just jump through it right then. So I did. It was a powerful experience. I put 30 days together in rehab. My roommates relapsed on heroin behind the gym but I didn't. I came home and signed up for a 90 day intensive outpatient program. It was awesome. I completed it and got a diploma. I made lasting friends in my town. I then went to an aftercare program twice a week. I started going to meetings; 90 in 90. I got a sponsor. I fired a sponsor, I got another sponsor. I worked the steps. Now I take the AA meeting back to the detox with my sponsor and help the patients there. I carry the message. I go to 5 meetings a week. I'm getting my career back. My relationships are healthy. I have plenty of money. My bills get paid. I quit smoking. My life isn't perfect. Some days I still want to drink. Yep can you believe that? But I don't pick up. The craving always goes away. I don't act on it. That's the difference. One day at a time, God keeps me sober, I am a grateful recovering drug addict and alcoholic.
