I've been out of AA for a while - it hasn't been my primary focus of recovery for years, but I do attend an offshoot of it called "Double Recovery" which is specifically for people with both addiction and mental health issues. It's based on the 12 steps. I only attend because, it's a safe space for me to talk about mental health recovery that I can't really do in my Women for Sobriety meetings. Normally it's facilitated by trained, in recovery, staff from my mental health club house. But with the pandemic, they've cut their number of meetings to 3 a week, which is still amazing, and they have different volunteers facilitating the meetings. There's also more people from out in the community as well as just members from the clubhouse. ok - long intro.

The issue is there's one guy, who simply can't grasp the concept of no cross talk. He's always doing it. Today I private messaged the facilitator of the on-line meeting, after he'd done it a couple of times, and from then on, the facilitator did a good job of shutting it down. I don't want to come down heavy on the guy as from what I get, he's new to recovery, and based on how he talks, I think he has some cognitive impairment possibly related to his substance use, or meds. But it's bugging me.

I'm thinking of calling the "official" facilitator, that is the contact at the clubhouse that's responsible for the meeting and say something, or is this just a case of should I live and let live?

thanks.

Would you raise the subject of a person who continually cross talks?

Ahhh cross talk, the bane of my existence. in my area we call the duel programs double trouble. I only attend AA. I was always told it was up to the chair person to reign it in, is that person one of your peers or is it someone in authority?

Hi @MsLady I just saw this and didnt realize I never revisited it. Crosstalk as far as AA goes would be like.... Lets say I share that I had a hard weekend because I went to a wedding and couldnt drink alcohol. I might say I was depressed or angry or whatever. Someone who crosstalks-lets call him Joe might raise his hand and say" My name is Joe and Im an alcoholic and sarahsweets you shouldnt have been at that wedding" or " You shouldn't/wouldn't/couldn't be depressed or angry" Its basically like "telling" others what to do, interupting people that are sharing to give your opinion and in my area that also goes for the AA people also in drug recovery that take time to rail against big pharma and how doctors are crooks, etc.
