I don't know who Peppa the pig is; my childhood was full of Bullwinkle and Rocky, Mighty Mouse, the Jetsons.....The Original Flintstones.
I craft, that is playing for me. Soaking up beads and paint and fabric satisfies me. Oh, and cooking!! Let's not forget cooking!! And writing and sewing! I know I am forgetting something. Polymer clay. That is wonderful to play with. __________________ "Love you. Take care of you. Be true to you. You are the only you, you will ever know the best. Reach for YOUR stars. Actually I should thank Fuzzybear for this post.I should play like a child ,it may give me real soul soothing.I was never a child.I was a born adult since day one.My actions most of them even now are directed towards pleasing and soothing other people.I should become a child and play. Thanks fuzzy for giving me this idea.

my alters were not the kind that did a lot of playing. they were in control only when I was triggered into having my dissociative symptoms (numb spaced out,...) due to a trigger and then the alter that took control was the one that handled that trigger. what that means for me is that in order for them to play, playing had to be a trigger for me. then the alter who's job it was to handle being triggered while playing would take control and handle that triggering event. that said I did have alters that found it comforting to hold toys and blankets as a self soothing / self nurturing / grounding while handling what ever the trigger was that caused me to dissociate and their taking control. I kept blankets, stuffed toys and other toys around the house from my childhood years around the house and children's books that were from my childhood also. Sometimes I would buy something new but mostly my alters were the kind that held, cuddled, wrapped up in what was familiar to who and what they were. for example Rainy preferred a hand crocheted afgan to wrap up in which I find is completely reasonable considering when I was her age a family member had made a hand crocheted afgan for my bed. She also had a definite doll of the same time frame, and a favorite ball. now that they are all integrated with me I sometimes do wrap up in that special blanket, and hold that lite brite and princess of power she ra dolls. my family and I still sometimes play box ball with the red rubber ball. |

Two of my alters that like to play a LOT are Vee and Sam. They were created to "house" the human need to play, I suppose. Vee is trauma free and her purpose is to connect with others in play. The other alters were all too traumatised to play, so she did it. And she was fiercely protected from every bit of trauma that was thrown our way.
She gets positively triggered by - play! If other children are playing she often is triggered out to play too. She absolutely loves to play. It is a little embarrassing for us adults, as most often at any gathering of people she will be off somewhere playing with the children. It serves two purposes I suppose - to fulfil the human need for play and to avoid potential trauma (that might come from interacting with adults). Vee is also triggered out in toy stores. When we see the toy aisles she often leaps to the front. Just a few days ago she was practically dancing in the toy aisles with joy because she saw a new toy she wanted. Again, it can be embarrassing. Sam is older but is fiercely protective of the role of childhood. Sam refuses to grow up any further, point blank, and protects the right to play. Sam was forced to do take on a caretaker role at a young age and did what was required but then created time and space for play (during childhood). Sam still maintains a self-image as a child and is driven to seek out and protect "play". Both are very handy alters to have. Both enabled us to have times of play and enjoyment during the wasteland of our childhood. Both still protect the right today. And both are dissociative type alters that are triggered by play. One by the possibility of play (Vee, triggered by toys, children, the sounds of playing) and the other when the right to play is threatened (Sam). |

I, the host gets triggered by play sometimes. The teens and littles all think that I'm a boring adult. They may be partly correct on that.
Still, it's hard for me to balance play, but when I do, the littles like to collect and play with dolls, Hot Wheels, crayons, colored pencils, paint, and Army men (or now women, once we get that set of both). We all agree on wanting a teddy bear. The teens like dressing up, putting on cosmetics, dancing, listening to music, and watching TV/movies, which I enjoy, in part, too. The adults have their own "play." They like movies, traveling, eateries, and shopping. Occasionally, they like spending time with others, such as in bars, restaurants, night clubs, and zoos. Oh, the littles and teens like the zoo, too. But some of us get sad to see animals in cages. They think they should roam free. But many zoos actually help prevent extinction, so we try to appreciate their efforts as well. Once in a while, we like the swings and board gams with others on the outside, but we don't go out that much. |
