Brintellix

Has anyone heard anything about Brintellix? It has just been approved for treatment resistant MDD. It's Prozac and Zyprexa..

I'm on Trintellix which is the same thing. It seems to help me focus better, which is something. I thought I was getting better overall but I'm just getting worse again.

Just starting this today. Fingers crossed it works well.

I'm on Brintellix. It's not Prozac and zyprexa. It's a serotonin agonic/antagonist, it hits a bunch of different serotonergic synapses, similar to the other SSRIs, but antagonizes 5-HT3 sites and is an agonist at the 5-HT1 sites.
It's supposed to be the best serotonergic drug out there for cognition, memory and attention. I'm not sure it's done a whole lot for me depression wise, but I do think it's helped cognitively.

Thanks for the info. I am coming off ect because of problems with memory. I have been on it for a long time, and it has surprised the Psy. that I am having these problems at this time. He says that it usually happens during the first few and they call it ect delirium (sp?). I think I will mention this medicine and see what he says.
I am already on prestiq, ativan, buspar for my depression. maybe I can switch the pristiq for the brintellix. thanks alot.

Pdoc put me on Brintellix within days of its release last year. It didn't help my depression, but cognitive & other side effects definitely were less severe than with the SSRIs & SNRIs I'd been on previously.

I was on Brentillix for several months and it did no good. I just completed a rather unique clinical trial (6 months) in which they did a DNA analysis of specifically what SSRI would be best for me. I had tried them all and none had worked so I was trying to find out what would.
My test results showed only one--- Pristiq, was optimum for me. Strangely I had switched form Pristiq to Brintillix when Brintillix first came out. Pristiq helped but not much. The clinical research Psychiatrist put me back on Pristiq and doubled my previous dose to 100 mg.
I have responded to that dose but not to the degree I was hoping for .Still depressed but not as bad. He said people can take up to 300 mg a day. My trial has ended now and I am hoping my GP will up my dose. I would highly recommend having this DNA test if you can afford it.
Like I said only one out of about 30 meds was best for my DNA makeup. The nurse said she has only seen a case like mine once before, where only on med was the best.
The literature I have read has said that anything above 50mg does not help but the Psychiatrist said that is not true.
Anyway, this new method could be better than the hit and miss method many of us go through, If you are lucky, you might find a clinical trial like I did and the test will cost you nothing. I do not know exactly what it cost out of pocket but I think it is a couple of thousand dollars. I do not know if the test is covered by insurance.
