I've struggled with depression for almost 7 years now, used to be able to go to university and work and be in an fraternity and do really well with life. Now I live at home and and have tried to go to back to college and study at university and live on my own, but my parents do not support me and don't believe me which has been keeping with stuck. Now I'm just going to get my associates degree, my dreams kind of came crashing down. But, there is always hope as long as we are still breathing.

Anyway, the other day my brother gave me a piece of advice that has helped me more than anything else. He told me to write a list of everything that I have to be thankful for and read it everyday and add to it everyday, and I tell you what it's amazing how big of a difference that has made in my life. I much less depressed than I did a few weeks ago(also thanks to Valium)

Hello, KnightHawk88.

Yes I'm currently on on Valium and it helps me with the anxiety and back pain an awful lot, however I'm concerned about side effects and of course. Also, I'm very concerned about long term use because these are some of the most addictive drugs ever made. I'm in the process of researching natural solutions to my problems and trying different things. taking a high amount of DHA(a type of fish oil) has been very helpful.

Hi KnightHawk88, well done with following your brother's advice, kudos is due, I'm glad it is helping, I try to do a similar thing from time to time. As an alternative to benzodiazepines, I have been prescribed a small dose of quetiapine for anxiety and agitation, it also has antidepressant properties (even though it is primarily a major tranquilliser used in higher doses for psychosis) it really helps me although it makes me sleepy (I take it at night) and it is not addictive. It may not suit you, but just to show there are alternatives.

Thanks for the tip Fizzyo. I'll look it up and ask my doc about next time I see him.
