No one else does either. It's just the way it is. I don't know what's the point of writing this. I'm at the end of the rope; tomorrow really just might be it.

That's a key point.

Long ago I reached the conclusion no treatment or collection of treatments was going to "make it go away."

No point needed. It's possible, though, someone else at a similar point may see what you've written and draw comfort knowing they are not alone.

Same here. I figured it was a matter of learning to deal with this "new normal," but so far I've been unable to do so, and I see no reason to think that will change.

Unhappydaze, is the sleep at all refreshing, restorative sleep?
Are you able to see a doctor and simply lay out your basic symptoms? (I'm concerned more than just depression is at work here.)

PS: I just discovered your reworking of "Industrial Disease" -- bravo!

Occasionally. Most days I wake up tired and without energy. I've been seeing a pdoc for 3 years. We've tried all (or nearly all) SSRIs and SNRIs, an MAOI, and a handful of non-categorized meds. Now we're trying various combos of "main" meds and add-ons (Wellbutrin, at the moment). ECT, also. Refractory (treatment resistant) depression, they say.

Thanks for replying

I used to have to sleep during the day. On top of the 8-9 hours at night I needed another 1-2 hours during the middle of the day. Its just another sign that there is changes going on in the brain itself. I can't see how someone can just decide to be this way or be that way from a lack of decisions. There is clearly something different going on in the brains of people with mental illnesses like depression.

Does your pdoc have any ideas specifically for fixing your sleep? Ambien used to work well for me, then it stopped. Now I take 7.5 mg mirtazapine/Remeron for sleep.

Another idea is, if you have a smartphone or other device that you can download an app to, is to download an app like Sleepbot and record yourself sleeping. I did that a couple of months ago and unexpectedly discovered what sounds like sleep apnea, so I'm going to be going for a sleep study soon. I was waking up tired every day with lots of headaches and low energy.

I've had depression in some form (sometimes moderate, sometimes severe) for most of the last 30 years. Every now and then I end up on a meds combo that works pretty well and I get a couple of years where I feel decent. I'm on Cymbalta and Remeron at the moment and doing pretty well, comparatively speaking.
