I have been told I have a treatment resistant disorder. Having also been told I have a personality not conducive to therapy, my question to the professionals is whether I resist treatment or if the disorder is resistant to treatment?

The responses from the professionals have not been conclusive.

It's an excellent question.

I suppose you could start by asking yourself what about your personality may have led some to say that it doesn't lends itself to therapy.

Are you closed off to considering a variety of viewpoints?
Are you threatened if your personal status quo is subject to review?
Do you contend that "your way" is the "only way"?

Any of those things isn't a recipe for a thriving inter-personal therapeutic dynamic. It'd be like banging one's head against a wall and expecting to NOT get a headache.

Did anyone ever elaborate on why they made that contention about you and therapy? I'd sure as heck want them to back that up with clarified reasons.

If your answers aren't "yes" to any of the above, I'd think you'd be able to get at least some relief from therapy.

Maybe they were talking specifically about medication?

I'm sorry they have come to that conclusion!

I have been told much the same as I don't respond much to meds and have had limited response to talking therapy. They also say it's a personality thing with me. At least they gave me reasons, but it doesn't help the hope quotient!

Maybe we can prove them wrong? Would be brilliant to be able to thumb our noses and say "proved you wrong suckers". Maybe there are things we can learn here to help us do just that.....

Wishing you all that is good, caring and helpful. ❤️
