I have been looking into alternative depression treatments, because I feel that my brain chemistry is out of wack and the ssri isn't helping much. As I was looking into SAM-E I came across an article on webmd claiming that taking SAM-E alongside your anti-depressant is more effective than the anti-depressant alone. I have to be skeptical, however, because it sounds like the study was done by the company that sells the SAM-E. It was very tempting to run out and buy SAM-E, but that is what they want people to do, as any hope is good hope while severely depressed. Does anyone have any SAM-E experiences that could help shine some light on whether it is indeed effective?

Here is the article SAM-e May Boost Effects of Antidepressants

Sorry I haven't heard about it. Maybe it's worth discussing it with an independent pharmacist. If it's safe and not too expensive it comes be worth a try. However, just because it's natural doesn't mean there won't be side effects. If it's effective it can cause side effects.

Best of luck

I have not tried the SamE. One reason is it is expensive for me. However, I had read that most Americans have a lack of bit D which effects serritonon and dopamean levels. But, have to take magnesium to absorb D.The magnesium inadvertantly lowered my pain levels and would often keep me out of the major morning funks.

I believe these are part of SamE.
