Has anyone else been dealing with a diagnosed mental illness, be it depression, anxiety, personality disorders, psychotic disorders, etc; that has not responded to any treatment?
I been suffering for over a a decade. Been diagnosed with several disorders over the years. Since the beginning, I been taking medications and was always in therapy, many different therapists over the years. Not only have I never got better or improved but I actually been getting worse steadily over the past 3 years. I don't have hope anymore, and I don't see the point in giving it time or having patience, as that is what I been doing for over 10 years. But the fact that it just keeps on getting worse and worse as time goes on is really extremely discouraging and makes me feel I am beyond hope and help. If anyone else is dealing with this, how are you coping? How long have you been dealing with this? What have you tried? |

I don't have TRD, but I have treatment-resistant disorders, primarily because I've been dealing with newbie T's that are barely learning themselves how to disseminate treatment and truly listen to my needs. When that happens, I try to appreciate the therapist and the tools offered, but I'm open with my communication about what's not working and why. I'll leave treatment if it's not working out.
What's worked for me is finding things in life outside of therapy that help me, such as this online network on PC, self-help books, activities that get me through the day (sometimes playing Sudoku, sometimes eating a good meal, sometimes watching shows, and sometimes just plain old rest). My energy levels are low, due to chronic fatigue syndrome, among other physiological disabilities, so that interacts with my mental health treatment, and more T's really need to be aware of this interaction. Communication is best, but when that's being ignored, then we have to be proactive in our care. Finding and writing down a list of what works is a good starting point. Making lists on what your symptoms are, your laments are, what's worked, and what hasn't may help you and your providers. Hope this helps in some way. (((safe hugs))) |

I've also been dealing with newbie therapists. I think leaving treatment if its not working out is wise.

So sorry you're suffering and have had this experience with therapy.
Have you tried any support groups? I tried different organized ones, then lucked into a self-organized group that branched off of an unrelated group on meetup.com. I still feel beyond help and pretty hopeless, but focus on one moment at a time, one day at a time. Maybe things will improve? Who can tell? Maybe I'll come across something or something will cross my path before it's all over? I don't know. |

Hi. I have generalized anxiety disorder, TR depression, borderline and avoidant personality disorder, agoraphobia with panic disorder. I have tried pretty much almost every med, I take Xanax and have been on it long term (it helps just slightly now and I’m dependent on it), I have tried antidepressants to no relief, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation to no relief, and will soon be undergoing ECT. I have also tried many different therapists and therapies, and meditation. No relief.

If it has not been suggested try to get into DBT.
I suffered like you for 30 years and then i went into DBT and it helped so much. |

I was not told I was, just happen to have read it in my notes by my primary care doctor. With DID and PTSD I am feeling very treatment resistant lately. Falling into a depression

I wanted to let you guys know I decided against doing ECT. I had the chance a while back and was going to do it, even had an appointment to talk about it, but I just can't seem to trust that it will be good for me.

I struggled for years trying to find relief. I have an excellent therapist and pdoc. It certainly isn't for lack of trying on their part. Then one day when the doc had to respond to a patient in crisis, I had to see his PA, Jaicob, which was fine with me. He started asking me a lot of questions and when he got done, he asked me if I'd ever tried Spravato. He explained it to me. When I got home, I read everything I could find on Spravato (Esketamine) and ketamine. I went with the ketamine because during the infusion all of the drug goes straight to your brain whereas Esketamine is a nasal spray and dosing is not consistent because it depends on how quickly the drug is absorbed through the nasal membranes and into the bloodstream. I can't do ECT or the magnetic thing because I have metal in my head. __________________ You're only given one little spark of madness. Hey @Capac How long have you seen the same doctor and are they a psychiatrist? Or have you had to jump around because insurance companies are evil? What does your doc think?
