Our chat rooms generally require the following, which almost all modern computers and laptops have enabled by default:

- Javascript
- Pop-up blocker turned off for our domain (psychcentral.com)

Also, as a reminder to our new members, you need at least 5 approved posts before you can enter chat. Chat is a membership benefit to our community, and we want people to know who you are before you can gain access to chatting.

While our chat rooms inevitably work with most people's laptops and desktops, they do not generally work with the following:

- iPad
- iPhone
- Many mobile devices
- Satellite Internet connections

We're sorry the chat rooms won't work on every device available today.

If chat is not working for you, please post as much detailed information as possible -- in the main support forum (not here) -- about how you're connecting with the chat rooms --

- Type of computer and operating system (like Mac with OS X, or PC with Windows 7)
- Web browser used (Firefox, IE, Chrome, Safari) and version # (usually in the "About" menu)
- Type of Internet connection (broadband cable, FIOS, satellite)
- The specific behavior you're encountering (blank screen, something else)

The more information you provide in your note, the more likely it is we can help you with an answer.
