Hair color mess up!

I know that I am probably not the only one that has experienced having a hair stylist do a terrible hair color treatment on them. I have blonde hair.

I specifically told the hairstylist that I didn't want white blonde or light blonde hair!! Well now I have white blonde hair with warmer blonde streaks and a golden blonde patch underneath the top layer of hair on the back of my head!

So I have booked an appointment with a different salon to get a color correction done. I know I will have to pay alot for it but I think it's worth it so I can hold my head up high and not feel embarrassed!

I am only going outside Friday to get my groceries and prescriptions. After that I am staying inside till Monday afternoon when my appointment is (for the color correction).

A few years ago (back in school) I wanted a new look and decided I'd have my hair done in a new style and have highlights put in. I have brown hair. WELL... the cut was fantastic, it looked gorgeous and I was SOOOOO pleased and over the moon about it. So, I went ahead with the colour.
The colour was just meant to be lighter browns to add definition to my hair. I had the colour washed out and from what I could tell whilst it was wet it was gonna look great.
Obviously it didn't go as planned. As it dried... I looked, thought oh it's just drying. Looked again.... I HAD BROWN HAIR WITH GINGER HIGHLIGHTS! It was awful. My friend reassured me I looked great (what a mate, eh!) and I went to school the next day. I had a horrendous morning and I ended up calling my mum a couple of hours in to the day crying and pretended I wasn't feeling well so I could go home.
Anyway, me being a poor student and all couldn't afford to go to the hairdressers to get it sorted out so I thought of a quick fix. At home hair dye kit! So, I died my hair a dark brown to cover it all up... Or so I thought... I went completely ginger! I tried it a couple more times and NOTHING worked so I ended up having to just let it grow out, which took forever.

It does knock a lot out of your confidence and so I hope the new hairdresser sorts it out for you and as Muffy sad... we love you no matter what


By the way... I personally don't think there's anything wrong with ginger hair. But, at the time I was a VERY self conscience young teenager.

When I was in my mid-teens I decided I would put blonde highlights in my hair. I followed the instructions as carefully as a teenager would... . When my hair dried I had a wide blonde streak going down the center of my head and above my ears (to the back of my head) there was also wide blonde streaks!

I looked like a punk rocker! I made an appointment with a hair dresser that had a salon in a shopping mall and had to walk through the mall to get to her salon! People were staring and pointing at me!

After the hair stylist was done my hair was a lovely shade of strawberry blonde!

This reminds me of my "Sun-In" days. Spray mist on hair, go in the sun for a few hours, and watch your hair magically turn either orange of white.

Is there any way you can contact the stylists manager? They really should correct the error, you were quite clear in your instructions. I can understand your hesitance to see the same stylist.

I just want to cut my loses and move on. It was hit and miss as far as hair colors went with this hair stylist but I liked the hair cuts. Maybe it should have been a subtle hint that when your hair stylist's hair is a different shade of the rainbow everytime you go in (say every three months) it maybe a sign that you should run for the pot of gold while you still can!

A few years ago, my dad decided to "treat me" because I wanted to get my hair streaked. New to this whole thing as I was, I decided I wanted two different colours of streaks in my hair (which does cost a small fortune). I got "foils" since it's easiest for me and less chance of allergic reactions (the cap used during other streaking jobs is likely latex).

Well, my hair is normally a "dirty blonde" colour.

I wanted it streaked a lighter blonde, and a redish colour (although in my hair, I know that red NEVER stays long enough in my hair!!)

So I get it dyed.

I wind up with:
My regular blonde hair...

With WHITE BLONDE CHUNKY HIGHLIGHTS and BRIGHT RED HIGHLIGHTS!!

Now, trying to imagine this is likely hard...

But, imagine yourself looking like a Canadian Flag.

Honestly. I looked basically patriotic, celebrating my country's colours.

Thankfully it was July so it was a good excuse!!

The red faded out within a month, and the white took forever. And I vowed to never do that again. Usually when I do temporary dyes now with red though, my lighter blonde ends wind up - PINK! Especially when the colour is fading out. *shudders*

How is the hair today?

I am getting the color correction done today at 2pm!! Keep your fingers crossed and pray for my hair!

My hair dye story: I was 16 and decided I wanted my hair dyed black/blue. I wanted to get it done properly because I didn't trust myself to do it alone. I booked the hairdresser to come to my house, and she'd be cutting my mum's hair too that day. Only thing was, the night before I collapsed with abdo pain and got taken to hospital, where they said I had a UTI and sent me home with painkillers and antibiotics, but I was still quite ill and not up to much.

So the hairdresser did it at my parents house and we left it just like you should, then it was time to wash it off, so I went upstairs and did it. The hairdresser had done my mums hair and decided to leave before I'd had time to dry it, so I said it was fine (or so I thought) and she left. Once it was dry it looked a mixture of my natural colour (mid brown) and black/grey!! It looked terrible. Unfortunatly, I kept getting more ill, and so couldnt get it fixed properly because I was in and out of hospital and had surgery. I looked pale and rough enough without dodgy hair on top!!

Grrrr! I don't know what to make of my latest hair color fix!! It is about 65% correct. I paid $156 (Canadian dollars) for the hair color fix. I just don't know what to do. Am I just not that daring as far as hair colors go? The only good thing about this hair colour is that I don't look like frosty locks! Wish I had a good webcam and good lighting so I could show you all the new hair color and see what your honest opinions are of it.

one time I went to go get a body perm (not a poodle perm) because my hair is wavy in some parts and straight in others and i wanted it to be uniform and that's less abrasive than straightening it everyday y'know? well I went to an aveda salon which are supposed to be top shelf and when they were done I said "I look exactly the same as when I came in" and they agreed. So I waited the 2 weeks and went back and they re-did it for free. don't go somewhere else and pay again. make them correct their mistake!

I went to an Aveda salon today. The lady was one of their master stylists therefore that is why I paid so freaking much for my latest hair color. I am just sick and tired of going to get my hair colored and having it not turn out the way I would like it to. At the salon, after my hair is processed, washed out, and dried.....I think it looks ok. When I get home and check it in my bathroom I freak out. My hair color isnt to the point that I have to wear a hat in order to leave my home but I am a little paranoid. And I gave the stylist at the Aveda salon a good tip. Am I blonde or what?

i've always gotten pretty lucky. usually i tell them 'you're the one who went to school.....you do what you think would look good on me' and get pretty awesome results. then again, i've had my hair every style/color under the sun and can handle pretty much anything when it comes to changing my hair.

what i like to do, if i know exactly what i want, i search for specific hair styles and print out a picture of what i want. they have so many pictures out there, its pretty easy to find something you like. then they know exactly what you want it to look like.

hope you get used to it! and i'm sure it'll wash out a little over the next month or so. one time i dyed my hair dark brown and it came out black so i had to go to sally beauty supplies and get some stuff to strip the color out and re-do it.

It's so ridiculously overpriced to get your hair colored at a salon. I think I only tried it once many years ago and was unhappy with the results. I think they charged me $60-65. What a waste of money. Now, I will only color my hair myself, which is very rarely. I can buy a box of hair dye for $4 at target and get better results myself.

well. my hair is currently red.
it was originally black. so to put the red in it needed bleaching.
there is this stuff they do in the shops that i bought, that can bleach and dye hair at the same time, and the dye is temporary.
i had taken this into account, but i didnt take into account that when it faded, it wouldnt just go gingery, like expected, it went BRIGHT PINK and ginger.
now my friends being obsessed with an anime called naruto, my nickname was sakura for the next week >.<

i find that doing it yourself is cheaper, and harder to screw up.

here's my story: i color my own hair these days to cover the gray on my dark brown hair. i had found a great new color that had a very dark reddish tint to it that i really liked. so the next month i went back to buy the color and i got one that was a different box and i came out looking like a pumpkin! good think this was around halloween. i fixed it a few days later.

I need an answer from someone that knows alot about hair coloring!

I am on the fence about going back to the hair salon to get my hair colored again.

What I am curious about is if I use hair color products that you can use at home, will my hair turn green or a funky colour? Will the salon hair color treatment affect the home color treatment (if the two are combined)?

I had my hair colored twice in the last week and a half (both at a salon). So, now that some time has passed and I have washed my hair regularly since...is it SAFE to try home coloring products? If yes, what brands would you recommend?

I am so worried that if I try to color my hair at home that my hair will either fall out or become a strange color to the point I'll have to wear a hat and go back to the salon.

zen, you might want to try a beauty supply store where someone there can help you pick the right product.

I have had my colored at a salon then done it at home and haven't gotten any crazy results.

If you're really worried though, go to a beauty supply shop and buy something to strip your hair. This will take out whatever they put in and you can do with it as you please. But, be ware, your hair will look kind of brassy with the stripping agent so adjust the color for what you hair will be AFTER you strip it. It might also hold the color better so don't go too dark or it might come out darker than you want.
