My mom can't find adult diapers in her size (I think her waist is 56 inches or so) in the stores, and the few I've seen online cost too much for her. Does anyone know where one could find reasonably-priced adult diapers for obese persons? Thanks.

I was looking online to try and help you find a good adult diaper for the best price and while I do not know what they usual go for I was seeing them for around $80 (ouch) - then I found this site, were they are $50 for extra large with FREE shipping... smaller sizes are less.

Maven, have you tried a medical supply store? Google "medical supply store" and your state -- there are bound to be several near you.

Thanks. I know there's one medical supply store, at least, because my mom got her walker there. I'll tell her they might have them. Her main problem is that she's obese, so it's difficult to find affordable ones in her size.

When I worked in the nursing home, we just folded chucks and placed them in the underwear of obese women. We had a different technique for the men.

You may find them cheaper. This was my first hit. Not as absorbent as diapers but handy especially when in bed.

Chucks are those disposable absorbant pads that are placed on hospital beds. Have you ever had a baby? They put them under your bum in case you have break through bleeding. Also used for puppy training pads. They come in a variety of sizes.

Oh, thanks! No, I've never had a baby or really been involved in anyone's pregnancy, so I'm not familiar with them.

Chucks are a great idea AAAA. They really do help unless the person is fully incontient then we always use diapers and chuck pads. I do know i saw on a commerical that is a company that sends diapers to the home and its very disceret they might have x large sizes ill have to keep a look out for the name of the company and let you know. Is she completely incontinent or dribbles? Because if she just dribbles you can buy extra large period pads and they work just as great. They are cheaper, you do have to change them more often but you would do the same for diapers cause no one wants to sit in their own pee. If you get really desperate you could always go to your local nursing home and ask where they get theirs. They get major discounts and buy in bulk they might even offer to set something up for you like if you pay them they will order you some. Im not sure but its worth a try. I would also ask her doctor about different options. There is one thing i do want to bring your attention to though. Those who are incontient especially you need to keep an eye on how much she urinates and if her stomach ever becomes enlarged and hard. People with incontience have a greater risk of not being able to empty their bladder all the way and it can be very damaging because they arent able to control their urine output as we can. Not saying your mom has this problem but if you didnt know about that its just alittle helpful tip to keep your mom safe and comfortable. Good luck!

No, she just dribbles, I assume. I mean, we have gone out together, and she was fine, and she would have likely told me if it was really bad.

Thanks, Inny, for that info. I don't know much about incontinence, so it's useful information.

There are inserts similiar to pads that are specifically for this issue. I would try those before going to the full diaper. It's most likely an issue if she coughs or sneezes.

yea definitely. If it is just a dribble go for the pads, diapers are uncomfortable and really are only used if there is full incontience. I mean you can use them whenever, its your choice, but no reason to have your mom walk around with a crunchiness just for some dribbles. Pads will be much more comfortable and reasonable with her certain issue. Plus it will save you money!

Is there a Fred's dollar store anywhere around you? You can find them there in the store brand.

Usually the dollar store such as Family Dollar, Dollar General, even Walmart has a store brand which is cheaper. Have you checked into a medical supply. They have them there cheaper. If you let PM me where you live, I can ask my sister who is the office manager of a home health where a good place to buy cheap adult diapers.
