how often are u meant to go to a gyno? And how often are you meant to get those pap tests done? They are so uncomfortable! Only had it done once. It took the dr about fifteen minutes to get the smear last time cos i freaked out a lot and told her to stop. A few times. She was very caring and safe.

The general "rule" is once a year after becoming sexually active. There are some circumstances where it is needed more often...usually when one comes back with a questionable result. Also, if there has been any "risky" sexual activity.

There are lots of ways the doctor can make the exam more comfortable for you. Smaller speculum, and explaining as he/she goes are two very simple ways. Also, if you can have the doctor talk to you about other things while doing the exam (but still letting you know what is happening). Most of these doctors are very aware of how uncomfortable this exam is for everyone...they also have awareness of how much worse this is for abuse survivors (I don't know if you fall into that category or not). Talking to the doctor before hand can really help.

yeah i hav been sa before thats why i freaked out. Been avoiding going back for another appt. I went for the first time about 3 years ago. Haven't been since.
