I've been having these periods (time, not menstrual) where I'm incredibly moody, I'm filled with rage, depression, hopelessness, even suicidality. I cry very easily during these times, and I almost NEVER cry any other time. I can't concentrate, and often have to leave my class because I can't handle anything, I feel too overwhelmed. When I'm not having these symptoms, I feel fine; great, even! I'm on birth control, which (you'd think) should regulate my hormones; but I recently started Lamictal, which I've heard can lower the effectiveness of birth control. I just started piecing together the fact that I have these times of being overwhelmed on a fairly regular basis, and it's similar to PMS but to the extreme!! I don't know very much about PMDD, but I have all the symptoms listed online! I definitely am going to bring this up to my doctor the next time I see her. Is there anything else I can do?? I'm in the middle of one of these "moods" right now, and I hate it .

I would defiantly talked to your doctor as I was Dx with PMDD about five years ago and I was going through the same symptoms as you have described. this would all take place the week before or during my period... I dreaded this time of the month as I too was very suicidal for three or four days and it was so bad that I felt like I might not be here the next day.

I have been taking Celexa 20 mg 1x a day for my PMDD with an increase of the Celexa to 20 mg 2x a day during the week of my period... and I can honestly say that I owe my life to this medication.

P.S.
In the time being I would suggest that you obtain a support person that knows what you are going through and is willing to be there while you are experiencing these symptoms (for your safety and for the safety of your life) and I would recommend that you go out and buy a large dark chocolate Hershey bar and eat two piece each day of your period... this remedy was given to me by my doctor - the cocoa in the dark chocolate help raise the serotonin level we female loose during our period and that all people need to be mentally balanced.
Thanks for this!
