![]() ![]() ![]() Does anyone here have mittleschmerz, "middle of the month" pain? I have this horrible excruciating pain 10-20 min 4or 5 x a day starting the 14th day , when I ovulate and then for about 5-7 days. I found the answer to what my pain is called, but I cannot find anyone who has resolved it just theories by MDs about what causes it. It is the worst pain. I already take a superstrong painkiller and that doesnt even lessen it!!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]()

Im really really sorry to hear that. It is so unfair, but reality. I have chronic pain for other reasons and a hoping someone might know how I could manage this one as the other is unmanagable.

hi Miracle, yes... ive talkd to 3, none of them even diagnosed me with this, i learned about it on the internet. Ive had ultrasounds over and over, none of the ob/gyns could find a thing that would cause such pain, one thought it was b/c i had a cyst that was large enough to be removed, but after it was removd I still had pain...thanks for responding

Yes, I have mittelschmerz. It is caused by the ovum popping free from the ovary, aka ovulation. It only occurs once for me each cycle, though. If you are having it 4-5x for 5-7 days, it sounds like something more than mittelschmerz, so perhaps that is why none of the gynecologists diagnosed that. The symptoms do not match. My first guess would be an endometrial cyst on your ovary, which I have also had, and the pain was terrible. (After tolerating it a couple of years, my gyneocologist finally did surgery and ended up taking one of the ovaries out--it was a lost cause.) But you say you have no cysts now, so I don't know. I agree that stopping ovulation might help, with hormones. Perhaps there is a very low dose hormone you could take that would be enough to stop ovulation but not enough to increase the blood clot risk. For example, the "mini-pill" contains progesterone only and does not increase the risk of blood clots.
