My period has been messed up since starting Risperidone, very light and irregular. It stopped completely over 2 years, and I figured I was into menopause early (I'm 44). Then last night I started a period again - very heavy, lots of clotting. I'm not impressed. I'm wondering if it's the result of starting seroquel which I've been on for about 5 weeks now. that's the only new thing in my life. Haven't changed my diet, excercise routine or anything. so I figure it's either the med, or my body being freaky.
Anyone else have a period start after a long abscence? splitimage |

To be on the safe side, I suggest you see your gyno or at least a regular doc about it. I haven't heard of Seroquel causing such a symptom.

I'm on Risperidone, but I don't think it's changed my period. Then again, I've just assumed the changes were caused by getting older. My period does the same thing it did for the first few years I had it, where I have my period for a couple of days, then it almost stops for about a day, and then starts again and finishes a day or two later. It stopped doing that for most of my adult life, but like I said, it does it again now. That's been going on for a couple of years. I'm not sure how long ago I started Risperidone. I do know the Risperidone causes a small amount of milk to express from my nipples.
However, you said you thought you were in menopause early. That's still a possibility. A lot of women's periods stop, and they think it's over, but months later, it happens again. It doesn't necessarily stop for good when you haven't had it in a while. Comedian Rosie O'Donnell said her period stopped, she thought for good, but it came back eight months later. My mom told me she was done menopause at 44, and I'm 45, and still having my period every month, and my last blood tests didn't show me to be peri-menopausal. __________________ Maven If I had a dollar for every time I got distracted, I wish I had some ice cream. 1) AP's can cause you to stop having periods.
2) Each woman reacts to each individual AP differently 3) Due to (1) and (2), it is possible that you stopped on Risperdal and resumed on Seroquel. If you are still on Risperdal, then I do not know how Seroquel would do that to you. At any rate, report it to the p-doc, and if the p-doc advises to see a gynecologist or a midwife or a family physician, then do that. |

My mom hadn't had periods in years, then had a really heavy, long one out of the blue. She went to the doctor. It turned out she had endometrial cancer. They were able to treat it (hysterectomy and Chemo) and she's fine today.
Talk to your doctor and get checked out. It might be nothing. It could be really serious. __________________ They don't ever lock ya up for thinking crazy - they only get ya for actin' crazy! And just 'cause I'm paranoid doesn't mean they aren't really out to get me... |
