I have a difficult decision to make in the next couple of months. I have a fibriod, , and they have to take my uterus for that (which is fine). There is the option of them taking my ovaries as well, throwing me into a sudden menopause. The problem is that they can't give me estrogen due to my high blood pressure. If they don't take them when they take my uterus, they may have to go back and remove them anyway. I am of coarse concerned about how sudden menopause will effect my bipolar disorder, especially since I tend to be on the manic side. Any one have any ideas? Anything I can/should look into as far as something to relieve menopausal symptoms? (I take lamitil, lithium, seroquel & buspar). Any specific places to look or contact about this? Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Why would you want to take out your ovaries? If it isn't medically necessary I'd leave them in. Early menopause can be a nasty ball of wax from what I've heard.

I had a hysterectomy 15 years ago or so but I kept my ovaries. I would not have opted to have them removed unless it was absolutely necessary.
Hormone replacement doesn't sound like it is easy to do. I am bi-polar also and I can see why you are worried. I can't imagine that being a good combination.

I had the same thing 8 years ago. I kept my ovaries and did have to go back in and remove one 2 years later. I am 50 and have really had an easy time menopause wise. Id hang on to my hormones as long as possible.

Why do you have to remove your fibroid? (You don't have to answer if you don't want to) They are very common and usually benign. I have them (one is quite large) and do not plan to remove them.
