Does anyone know how to get period cramps to ease up???? I get immobilizing cramps during my period (which I'm on right now) and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Heating pads, Warm Liquids, Advil and Rest were all that would work for me.

Hope you get some relief sooner than later.

I find athletics help me if that is something you do. Any sort of physical activity helps me as long as I can get through the initial pain. I hope you find some relief.

Cardio and vaginal sex helped me with mild cramps. I never had immobilizing cramps. The worst position for cramps was sitting. As with everything else in life, being well hydrated is an absolute must.

Valvarin root tincture. It is a mild soft muscle relaxer. So you can still drive and function as normal.

Aleve a few day's before it is expected. Or at the present time. But it you can make it not happen in the first place why not.

Your doctor can prescribe a medication that you start a couple of days before your period that helps you not cramp so badly. I don't remember what it's called. It's the same medication (in a way lower dosage) that they give to women to delay labor.

Also I've found that taking a potassium and magnesium supplement helps. They help with muscle cramps in general. I also would drink a lot of water and use a heading pad (they even make really awesome ones that stick to the inside of your pants so you can move around). A hot bath can help too.

I used to have TERRIBLE cramps with my period and so I did all that.. they were still so bad that I couldn't move and they made me feel nauseated so I switched my birth control to the shot - no periods. Talk to your doctor about the cramps. Not only are they inconvenient but they can also indicate another problem.

When I would get cramps I noticed that cold drinks and foods and chocolate increased cramps. Pay attention to see if any food or drinks increase your cramps. The uterus is contracting in order to shed itself and you get pain when the uterus contracts too hard and, therefore, decreases blood flow in the uterine blood vessels. This is why heat helps because heat causes vasodilation and increased blood flow in the uterine blood vessels. This is also why exercise helps too and sex/orgasm. Masturbation can work too. And drinking water increases blood flow to the uterine blood vessels.

Thanks Sannah, now I see why the things that help do help. Excellent explanation.

And that is why sitting is bad - it restricts circulation.
