Has anyone tried this? The tampon is supposed to alleviate period pain through low-frequency vibrations. A small company in Montana came up with the idea and patented it under the name "Vipon". A Swiss company purchased the patent and re-named it "Tamia".

This tampon is equipped with a small engine producing a gentle, low-frequency vibration in the area affec- ted by the pain, which has an antispas- modic and pain-relieving effect.
Once menstrual pain or cramps begin, the Tamia tampon, with its outer layer made of viscose, is inserted into the vagina and placed like a conventional tampon. Correct positioning is reached, once the tampon can no longer be felt. The vibration treatment is initiated by pressing the switch on button at the end of a wire and it lasts for one hour, after which the vibration will automatically stop and Tamia can be disposed of. One single Tamia tampon per menstruation is sufficient for the vast majority of women to treat the symptoms.

If only they'd had this when I was in my teens...except I didn't use tampons then...but it would have been nice to have something that might have helped the cramps. They were awful back then!

Unfortunately I couldn't find out if they are available in the US. Initially they were available only in pharmacies in the US but after the patent was acquired by another company it seems like they aren't anymore.. They have been around since 1999 (:

Just the thought of something vibing there during that time of month makes me hurt, and It ain't even that time of month for me. Sounds very uncomfortable. I have cramps that are painful at times. I don't think I would like that.

But to be used on other occasions does sound like t he potential for fun.
