I hate how women are treated! It infuriates me everyday.
I'm also infuriated about violence against women. I needed to vent that here. I've experienced it,witnessed it since I was 7 years old.
Mom & her then 2nd Husband oooh what a low down bastard he was. And violence against women all over the U.S.
I had to speak out on here. I'll keep it short.
That's it.
I'm so tired of the treatment of women.

It isn't US but all over the world. As the society progressed, man became dominant and women were losing their status. Man being physically stronger abuses women in all ways he could. Even though now women do almost everything men are doing but still their traditional work is not usually shared by men. Now, men wants a house keeper in women along with their ability to handle outside home duties.
Rapes in marriage and domestic violence isn't far behind.
I support you.

My boyfriend and I have argued about living in a "rape culture." Simply, I say we do and he says we don't. I've seen story after story of young athletes who rape a girl (often by drugging her or waiting until she's too drunk to consent), and the whole town backs him and calls the girl a slut.

Men expect women to cook, clean and give them sex. Even if the woman has a job outside the home (or even one inside, for those with home businesses). But they don't think they should have to share in those chores. The man can work an eight-or-more hour day and come home, and he expects to relax and have his wife wait on him. Never mind she's been working all day cleaning and taking care of the home (maybe the bills, too, depending who is expected to take care of the expenses), and if they have children, she doesn't get to rest, really. In the middle of the night, if the child cries, the mother is the one who usually goes to him/her. Mom works 24/7 almost.

I feel really sickened when I hear women who think women have this particular role they're supposed to live up to. Note that I'm not saying it's bad for a woman to be a traditional housewife if she wants to. I'm saying it's bad when she expects all women to do it. Employment out of the house can mean--if you're lucky--earning money doing what you love. So, some people think men should be able to go out and get the job, while the woman stays home and cleans and cooks. If she hates cleaning and cooking, she's just supposed to be miserable, and the man doesn't care. All some men care about is themselves.

I can go on and on with related stories (like mail-order brides and men who look for women from other countries who will be submissive and, in some cases, they can abuse).

I'm really happy to be a cultural dropout. Lots of people live in the rape culture, but I don't. Then again, I'm big and very strong, so that helps protect me. But it is definitely out there, I sure do agree.

Feminism has gotten a bad rap. A lot of people have a picture in their mind of what a feminist is, and the truth is, there are many kinds of feminists. There are some feminists who hate men, but most of us do not. We want to learn to be independent, not because we hate men, but because we don't want to end up alone and unable to care for ourselves, not know how to pay the bills and take care of housing needs. Some of us don't want to spend the rest of our lives cooking and cleaning, when there are jobs you can get doing almost anything you love. (You aren't guaranteed to find work that you love, but you have the chance, if you pursue it.)

You know what confuses me? Animals. In the majority of species, the females are the biggest, the fastest, or the meanest. They have to be to protect their young. But in humans, the females are usually smaller, weaker, and sometimes slower than the males. Um, human children need protection too! So why don't the big strong males take care of them? Several animal species share parenting duties between the males and females, or the males do a lot of the parenting. Why are human females expected to do it all?

I apologize if anyone was offended by this. I also apologize if this seemed like an off-topic rant.

I hate that women are still expected to handle all the in-home and child raising duties even when they have a full-time job. It's should be 50/50!

Mysogyny among women is also a real problem. Men get the good ol boys club... women get? Party of one. Not much sisterhood anymore. Makes me sad, not too mention lonely. Women slut shaming other women, disliking women because they are women or maybe because they do not fit their own ideal of womanhood. Women play a key role in setting an example of how women should be treated. Taking part in mysogyny only sets the example that it is ok. How did we arrive at that? If we can't beat 'em.. join 'em? I hope more women could keep that in mind, cause fighting the battle is hard enough.. even harder when your up against your own gender.

As a single mother of three whos father I left because of physical violence. He is no where in the picture, so I have to take on the role of cooking, cleaning, mother and father roles, bread winner, handy man, protector, and any other role that comes up. So yeah it would be nice to be treated as an equal when you are pulling the weight of both. Women have more than proven they are equal even tho they never should have had to prove a thing. Should have been a given.

The progress is sad, I agree. Feminisim had become a dirty word. This is probably one of the biggest challenges I face in my life and I am glad this thread was mafe, even tho sad others feel it too.

I agree with the posts so far, and thanks for making this thread, ((( Tormented&Tortured))). It sickens me also, that women are too often treated as servants, weaklings, notches on a belt, or prey!!!

Dear Women:

(1) Empower yourselves. If a given "box" doesn't work for you, find one that does. Realize you have this basic right.
(2) Find your niche, and who cares if some people disagree with it?
(3) If the surrounding culture is failing you, don't be afraid to point out why, and offer solutions.
(4) Fight fair, but don't back down.

(I realized after writing this, that it is good advice regardless of gender).

P.S.: I feel strongly about this. I am male. If it is not appropriate that I posted on the Women's Issues forum, I will understand if this gets removed.

I also feel that fury, especially when women claim it isn't so---or a man tries to soft peddle it----the mindset doesn't apply to everyone but then
anyone could, given the time and place, be in a war zone, and we know what happens....and someone dying from a bullet seems better than being raped, and surviving--

The media has alot to do with the way men treat women. Yes it does. Everyday, tv tells them over and over that we want sex or to be treated as objects, that they are here for a mans use. Were going backwards! If the average women doesnt act like the women on tv then hes a bit pissed at this and takes it out on her. Men no longer admire for our finer qualities: compassion, nurture, mother to their children, good ole homemaker! They dont see us as the gentler gender. They couldnt give a rats *** about all that they want a blow up doll to do as its told or face the consequences (dumped, cheated on or abused)

You are right but not all are weaker, there are some very aggressive women in this world, Ive known a few but theyve gotten this way by, surprise, being treated badly by men, especially single mums who have had useless/abusive partners, they become lionesses once they feel they must stand on their own 2 feet.

When I tell men I hate men who abuse and rape and hurt women, they get mad and start whining about how rape culture isn't real, how women have it better than men now. Well, if you say things like that, yeah, I probably don't like you- if the shoe fits!

I have men in my life that I love. If you don't want me to hate you, act like a human being and I'll treat you with the respect you deserve! But if you tell me that women are asking for rape, or excuse violence against us, I have no time in my life for you. I've been abused by men before, and most of the women in my life have lived through sexual violence. I don't have time anymore to coddle men who deny the reality of what most women go through.

As for women, especially young women, I'm always amazed by how resiliant we can be in the face of rape culture and sexism. But I think we need to do a better job of being there for each other. I see so many women who think that if they put down other women they'll be spared from sexism, but it doesn't work that way.

very true.

The worst kind of misogyny - FGM - is, to the best of my knowledge, practiced by older women on baby girls and young girls.
