My colleague tells me that she had bad migraines on Mirena, and went off it for that reason.

I never thought of it, but indeed, looking back, I have been having more migraines in the ~8 years that I have been on Mirena.

Not that I an ready to give up the ultimate convenience Mirena offers, but just wondering - does anybody else suffer from more frequent migraines while on Mirena?

Thanks.

I was considering Mirena at one time. I looked it up online and came across a web page (don't know where it was) where literally thousands of women voiced complaints about Mirena. People having their hair fall out, the device going through the uterus, and migraines was a common concern. I don't remember all of the side effects they talked about (this was a number of years ago) but it scared me away.

Try looking up side effects of Mirena, but I would avoid their official site. I try to find sites where people discuss their experiences rather than a list of side effects.

Hope that's helpful.
Thanks for this!

As with most things though, you have to remember that the percentage of people writing negative reviews is likely higher because when things DON'T work or have negative effects is when when they really want you to know about it. If it's working great, yay, but people aren't as likely to review it

I would read the precaution label, as approved by the FDA.

Here's something to note, Ham-Bam:

Removal of the system should also be considered if any of the following conditions arise for the first time:
Migraine, focal migraine with asymmetrical visual loss or other symptoms indicating transient cerebral ischemia
 Exceptionally severe headache
 Jaundice
 Marked increase of blood pressure
 Severe arterial disease such as stroke or myocardial infarction.

Healing - thank you very much. Indeed, I probably just experience increased frequency, but do not experience the exceptional severity of symptoms you highlighted.

Mirena is so effective and otherwise problem-free that I would stay with it for now.
