When did you first notice your first grey hair? Your answer can't be seen by others.

I kinda like the grays... I have brown hair and they act like little highlights. I have never wanted to dye my hair, figure its more trouble than its worth, and more damaging to my hair.

My mom used to say that, about hair coloring. She never did. I have, not because of greys, but to change the entire color. Have done that several times, over the past several years. Haven't done anything, since last summer.
My greys are still a streaky silver, and more around higher than my temples and not that noticeable, half the time. I think I was around 33/34? I can't remember, precisely, it wasn't earth shattering or anything.
Women, in my family get more patchy silverish greys and even at 81, my grandmother, still shows her natural hair color and grey.

I had one great grandmother, that went white, at 30.
And my paternal grandmother turned all white.

Maybe, I'll have more grey than natural color in my 60's. Who knows.

I started going grey at age of 15 , yes 15 ! ( Both my parents were grey by age 30) I am 46 now and I am 100 % grey/white , But I keep it colored, I am not ready to go natural yet.

I saw my first grey when I was 24. I'm 37 now and have about 100 greys. Thank god I got my dad's hair, he has few greys even at 60. Mom was snow white haired at the age of 30.

I was about 38 years-old or so when my first grey hair showed up. I wouldn't really mind it, but my greys have a mind of their own! The rest of my hair is dark brown, long & curly. So these white hairs zinging upward (with a crimp-like texture) really stand out! I plucked out my first 15 or so greys in the year or two, and now I'm just trying to go with it and accept reality.

I was about 13 and found a white hair. So far(37) I've never had an actual grey hair all mine are white. I've had about 30 more since I found my first one. Maybe I'll be like my mom and grandparents. My mom is 59 and barely has any. My grandparents didn't really start to change until they hit their late 60's.

early in my thirties the white hairs started to show, at first the odd one, but by the time i was 36 i looked like a dark blonde cruella de ville, not a good look when working with children so i eventually gave in and dye my hair, though it is more like lighten it really so the white streaks are less obvious as they do not seem to hold a colour for more than a couple of washes.

Interesting thread Googley. Thanks for starting it.

I've been coloring my hair because my previous pretty auburn has become a mishmash of auburn, grey, blonde, brown and I don't know what else. It kind of reminds me of the color of a mouse. In the winter, when I don't have any tan the blah hair color and blah skin color make me look all washed out. It's not so much that I'm trying to cover the grey, as trying give myself some kind of color. Without some color in my hair I look like death warmed over. I'm in the process of trying to let it grow out right now so I can see what the natural color looks like. I have some tan so I don't look all washed out.

Some of you mentioned going grey early. My husband had the most gorgeous head of hair, but started going grey at 17. By his 40s he was almost all grey. He used to say that the men in his family either went grey early or lost their hair early. He'd rather have a full head of grey hair than no hair. His hair was so attractive people woulde comment on it.

I wish mine would hurry up and take over more; I still (I'll be 63 this year) don't know what shade it might be, if it will be more white or just gray, etc. I remember when my stepmother noticed and pointed out to my father that I had gray when I had my hair pulled back and was 30. Most of mine is "under" my other hair and just at the sides.

Shezbut - you might try touch up to color the grey (at a hairdresser). I also have long curly dark brown hair, and the grey was of a wrong texture, just the way you described in your post. Not a lot of grey, though. My hairdresser takes care of it and there is no visible grey. I probably would have gone natural except for the texture mis-match.
Thanks for this!

34 or so and I was not happy...that was only a few years ago so now I am still just plucking. They seem rather silvery and not an altogether awful color, but I feel too young to be facing this, ugh.

Oh yeah and the texture DOES totally change, what the heck??

Haven't noticed any in past few months. I didn't pluck them but had just cut them.

16 was the beginning of the grey hairs, at my temples and over my forehead, then proceeded quickly to the rest of my head. I was totally grey by 20. I have been coloring since my teens and appreciate the effect. It is the color that it was before with some highlights. It will be nice when I can get to an age where it feels appropriate for me to let it go natural; however, that time has just not come yet, give me the bottle.

10 years ago...I was 22. Currently, I mostly have it at my temples. My hair overall is still definitely brown, though. I color it...I don't want to see gray hair at my age.
