I am running out of the Costco's bag of dryer sheets - do I need to replenish or is it just a marketing gimmick? I mean, the clothes do smell funny thanks to the dryer sheet, but do they actually look better?

They smell funny? Not good?
But to answer your question, I use dryer sheets because my clothes come out less wrinkly and don't cling to each other or to me. So, yes I think they're good. But I don't go to Costco so I can't comment on theirs.

They do work, so does the liquid softener. I use the dryer bars now, so there's no sheets to waste and clothes smell clean and look fresh. What you can do in a pinch is buy some cheap liquid softener and put about half a cap full in a spray bottle, fill the rest with water then spritz your garments with that (not soaking wet) just a little will work, and it will de-wrinkle anything in just a few minutes. you can also get a small rag soaked in diluted liquid softener (just make a batch in a tupperware container) and squeeze out the excess liquid from rag and toss it in the dryer. When your clothes are done just put the rag back in the container for the next round. I've pinched pennies for a long time so I learned a few tips to make nice things like that last a bit longer!

They make clothes less wrinkly, but they are also bad for your lungs. My dad was very ill when I was growing up and we were told do NOT use dryer sheets because it could so greatly impact his lungs

I usually get a baking soda kind, something that at least looks greener, and has a tolerable smell. Then I scissor them into halves or thirds so I dont use as much. Our apartment driers are not that large. I dont get cheap perfumey kinds for this, I figure it's on my body 24-7 one way or another. My mother got some generic kind once they were hideous.

The dryer sheets reduce static in clothing.
Don't ever use liquid softener in the washer with towels because it makes them less absorbent.

I use the liquid because I adore the original Snuggle brand smell. I actually will not do laundry without it.

I use liquid fabric softener in the wash and dryer sheets in the dryer. I do find, the sheets do help the clothes come out better. I've dried before, without sheets, it's the cling factor.
Don't know about the smell funny, aspect??? |
