I want to go back on the pill so I can use that AND condoms as birth control. However, the pill always kills my sex drive. Any suggestions on brand or type? I was reading a condoms are only 85% effective when used correctly. That's just not good enough for me....

I would check with my doctor. I have been on many birth control pills through years without this side effect. Maybe you doctor can suggest a different kind for you.

I gave up on using the pill years ago for that reason. Wasn't much fun being able to have spontaneous sex when I had no desire to have sex! I tried a few different types, but had the same problem.
I've used contraceptive film since going off the pill. I will be fifty this month. I still use the film although it seems rather silly at this point. I'm still menstruating, but those eggs gotta be pretty old. I think there are a lot of women out there whose sex drives are being hijacked by bc pills and they don't know it. |

I didn't realize my sex drive was killed by the pill until I was off of it. It was a slow process, losing the sex drive, that is. It was still worth it for me because I get pregnant easy.
There are other forms of birth control that are as effective as the pill that may be better for side effects. I have a friend who had reactions to the pill that could use the ring, for example. My hubby had a vasectomy (hooray) so I'm not very up on the more current birth control methods, but it would be worth talking to a doctor or if you have a planned parenthood in your area. |

I've been on and off BC since I was 17/18 years old. Can't say, I've personally had this side effect. Most of my pill prescriptions, through the years have been in the Ortho-brand of the pill. I have read that this can happen, and sometimes it's a matter of testing out various ones to find the right one.
Hope you find a BC form, that works for you. There are other options out there, if the pill isn't for you. I hear you about condoms. Good for STD protection, but pregnancy prevention certainly has it's risks involved. |

I don't trust condoms anymore. Too many mishaps. Now, you're right about the pill though. I went on it and after a while I noticed a significance in lowered sex drive, but I thought maybe it was just me maturing since I was going into my mid 20s and no longer a "horny teenager." Then I went off of it for 2 months so I could switch brands. I initially switched because they raised the price of my old one so I went on one that was cheaper. When I went off of the pill, my sex drive skyrocketed back up. I mean, I could immediately tell the difference.
So I was worried about going back on the pill because of that. Now the brand I am on, has lowered somewhat but not as much as my old brand. The one I am on now is mononessa, but I'm not sure all brands have the same affect on everyone. |
