Hey all,
So my doctor started me on a course of the Pill last month. I'm not yet completed this cycle but I've been having side effects: I've been extremely moody. Like, so angry that I want to hit my father for eating in another room. I know the pill can cause mood changes...is it like this? I've also been sad for no reason and swung between the two a fair amount the last few days. Should I go off this pill? |

Complain to your doctor and also check if there is something frustrating you like an unmet plan, dream or bad relationship. Moods sometimes have roots in things that happen to us, not only biological.

Depending on how bad the side effects are, your doctor might tell you to stick with it. It can take months for your body to get used to it and for the side effects to go away. I would make an appointment with your doctor to discuss the side effects your feeling and other options besides this specific pill you're on. Every birth control pill is a little different and you'll react differently to them. Not to mention, there's a slew of other options beyond the pill.

After my first child, and I went back, on the pill, I did feel I was moodier than anything, blamed it on the pill. I spoke with my ob/gyn, and decided on a different method of birth control. During my third pregnancy, my then h, had a vasectomy. So, for a while, the pill was a non-issue.
I started using it, again, early, last year. It helped me, not as a birth control, just regulated my cycle, a lot better, than where it had been. And it's also, used as ovarian cancer prevention, being at high risk for that. I didn't notice, anything unusual with my moods, this time around. One thing, could be, to talk with your doctor. And also, take a peek, at anything in your current life, that is troublesome, even to speak with a pdoc, just in case?? |

I was on the pill for the better part of 15 years. Some types worked better for me than others. My mood as well as my sex drive was altered in addition to the physical responses. I kept open communication with my doctors about problems when starting a new pill (Had to because of insurance and then when nursing and going back on the pill after not nursing). The typical response would be to give it 2-3 months for my body to adjust before they would adjust the dosage. Sometimes things did improve, other times it did not.
The brand I had to go off of due to my insurance not covering it was the best of them. After my boys were born my body had changed enough that what was right before no longer worked. In the end my husband got the old snippety snip so I no longer need it. __________________ gnat Dx: depression and anxiety Tx: Rhodiola Rosea, humor, denial, dance, and wallowing in my own self-pity My blog: http://messedinthehead.psychcentral.net/ |
