Heat pack all the way! I just got the mirena put in after they blew up my uterus and had a good look around and flush out, so my uterus is slowly shrinking back to size and adapting to the mirena - resulting in cramping. The heat pack has been far more helpful than any of the codeine meds they gave me. Hotter is better.

A hot water bottle or a few star jumps.

Some paracetamol and chocolate.

Sleep and shedding some tears.

A hug.

Writing a letter you won't post.

Again, chocolate.

I've tried literally every brand of "period cramp" medication out there. So I can say with credibility that the only thing that provided me any reasonable amount of relief was aleve. Although, I also have endometriosis.
It takes about an hour to kick in and once it does, it will work all day.
And the chocolate is always a good idea. Your body is good at telling you what it needs.
Hope that helps!

Heating pad and exercise. I know exercise is the LAST thing anyone wants to do when your dealing with really bad cramps (and especially if it's a heavy day...), but it does help.

Aleve is the only med I have ever found that helps, and I get terrible cramps...and a heating pad definitely helps for sure!!

I wish I had some really good advice, on this. Yoda, raises a point, in a way. I stopped having crampy periods over the years. And, if I could pinpoint the hows and whys, I'd certainly love to share. I could make a connection to regular sexual activity, after all, at this point, I do have three kids, and cramps ended long before they entered the picture, so that's a real possibility. But, this being PC, and with a wide variety of ages, can't quite say, that's the advice you could, personally use? (not sure?)

I remember, especially really young, 12/13 years old, and doubling over at my desk, in school. I remember, in HS, having days, where I'd look at my mom, and tell her, there was no way, I could possibly drag myself out of bed. Not just cramps, but exhaustion. (Had tested for anemia during my first pregnancy, many years later, and thinking to myself *aha*, that would explain that! --fatigue and anemia are synonymous.)

I'm lucky, at this point, even on BC, if I see my period every couple of months. This, is, one of those months. Which, is rather, opposite of what my maternal grandmother and my own mom went through at this age, they had fibroids.

It would be great, if they could actually get to the root of the issue, with cramps, and explain how and why, other than hormonal changes, and find better solutions. Even with a heating pad, we wind up, still in pain and lying down, tending to our own discomfort.
(just thinking outloud)

Heat always helped me. After my daughter started her period, the pediatrician recommended taking Aleve starting a day or two before you expect to start (or start cramping) and that this would greatly reduce or eliminate cramps. It really helps her.
I sure wish someone had told me that!

I have a couple things that really help. I rarely get cramps any more.
1. About 4 days before my period i start taking an Aleve type of medication twice a day
2. I regulary take magnesium supplements.

The magnesium apparently helps relax muscles. Taking a painkiller a few days before hand helps it build up in your system so it can help better when the pain starts. On the day of the cramps i use a heating pad if i need to. I rarely feel crampy any more.

My cramps are terrible! I've used just about every medication there is to relieve them. The only thing that actually helped was the pain meds I was prescribed after surgery.
I've tried different teas, chocolate, ginger, bananas etc and nothing helps.
They are bad to the point where I can be starving, but too nauseous to eat, and I get either constipated or have diarrhea (sorry if that's too much info). I've tried exercising, yoga, stretching and movement makes it worse! Masturbation HURTS because my v is painful to the touch. I also vomit and pass out from the pain every month.

When I talk to my doctors about it they prescribe me more motrin-which doesn't work- or suggest I go on birth control. They're never given me any other pain med options so I gave into the bc.
I think I need to be examined for endometriosis or cysts, bc my mom had cysts, but even though I mentioned it they didn't do any exams. One day when I finally collapse from the pain they're gonna wish they examined me.

I wish I had techniques to tell you, but the best thing would be to talk to your doctor about your options it if it's too much for you.

Maybe you could explore the fibroids thing.....I ended up anemic from the loss of so much blood.
Don't just "mention" it.....doctor's work for YOU......

Anyway, I sympathize and fingers crossed that you ARE okay.

Oral birth control pills lessens my symptoms and I have less periods throughout the year. I should go to my gyno if I have any medical issue behind the bad pains but I am pregnant at the moment. I had a cousin that had cysts that burst during her cycle causing the pain. A lot of women have bad cramps, but I'm wondering if you are talking about the severe crushing menstrual pain type
