I want to get off the pill but I'm a bit worried. Since going on I have gained/have been unable to lose weight and have had migraines skyrocket. There have been good things too. I feel more emotionally balanced and my acne cleared up miraculously even after fighting it with antibiotic pills, creams, washing, etc. My psychiatrist says it also decreases the effect of my antidepressants drastically.

I want to get off because I 1) am not using it as contraception anymore 2) am at a good place in my life emotionally 3) I want to lose weight

I just don't want to be breaking out like crazy for summer but I've recently gone way more dedicated on my vegan diet and lifestyle and am 100% yet I don't think I'm able to lose weight because of the pill. I'm 5"2 and a half and 117lbs but I've always been much thinner before treatment... I don't want to become underweight or anything. And I'm not TRYING to lose weight by being vegan - I just want it to be a positive reward.

Advice, experiences? I plan to consult my psychiatrist before doing anything.

BC pills are not for everyone as they have advantages, they do have disadvantages.

As far as antidepressants go, yes, they decrease them but the dose can be adjusted to accommodate for that so that should not be as much of a factor. If you go off, you will find that your dosage may need to be adjusted again.

How you feel on them is another matter. Weight gain is a common side effect but so is the anti-acne properties. Diet and exercise typically can help combat the usual weight gain that accompanies it; however if want to go off, there are skin treatments available to help with the acne.

It is what will make you feel better and in knowing what you are taking it for; if not for contraception any longer or regular cycles, weigh out the pros and cons such as in list, talk to your docs further, and perhaps that will help you decide what is right for you at this point.

Wishing you the best no matter what you decide.
