Thanks Doc, for this.
Well ladies, what should we discuss? =) Hmmmm, how about, who are your female roll models? I've been getting a lot of help from the Tyra Banks show. I love her because she's a beautiful woman, but she's not afraid to show her quirks and silliness. The topics of her shows range from relationship help to body image help to addictions to beaty. She may not be everyone's image of a roll model, but she's done wonders for me. Who is yours? __________________ |

My T is my best female role model, by far. I can't think of any celebrities that I would call role models. I would need to know them personally to be able to give them that title.
My T shows excellent balance in her life. She can laugh off the little stuff, and conserve her energy for the things that matter. She's made me realize how important that is. I am a much more laid-back and relaxed person thanks to her. She is one of the few people I know who is completely unattached to dogmas, and yet manages not to judge those who choose to let dogmas be their guide. She is compassionate, always. On a side note, she is in her late 40's and has amazing fashion sense. Fashion has NEVER been my strong suit. I said to my husband one evening that when I'm our T's age, I would love to be as cool as she is. He joked "then why don't you start now?" My Mom was my role model. And after she died.. I went bizerk. Now ya see what ya get. Basically a nimcompoop who has no direction whatsoever. That about sums it up.

 My Housemaster (House Mom) is most definitely my role model. I don't see her anymore, but i think of her and how she has impacted me daily. Also, my old T .... she is everything i would ever want to be, plus more. __________________ The unexamined life is not worth living. -Socrates |

My Mom! She has made many mistakes yet she has become one of the strongest people I know. And she has never, ever given up on me.

Well, I guess I should pick a roll model who's not a celebrity.
My old choir director. She was the director for a girls chorus, and she helped sing beautifully, but she also taught us how to be good, strong, couragious women. There's plenty of other women in real life who are roll models, but I have to give credit still to Tyra, for a lot of my strength as far as confidence goes. No matter how hard anyone tried, no one could convince me to be confident in myself until I started watching Tyra. __________________ |

I haven't really thought about female role models... I always wanted to be like my dad and was avoiding at all cost to be like my older sister....
Funny how fast we women got chatting here... it just caught my eye... the number of posts here and then 'there'.... I love this... this is a great idea... Thanks Doc! __________________

Can't say as I have one particular role model. In another lifetime, I wanted to be like a friend I had. She was... or tried to be like a Southern Lady. Then I started noticing the fakeness behind it all and said "Nope! Not her!"
I suppose I consider Oprah a good role model but something's happened to her. She doesn't seem "real" to me anymore. I still admire her for what she's done with her life especially considering where she came from and the obstacles she's overcome. I wouldn't want to be her now, though! Maya Angelou is another great lady. I've always loved Barbara Bush, Audrey Hepburn, Katherin Hepburn, I think I'm a bit "crusty" like KH, but as far as trying to be like them... no. I thought about this, and the first woman who comes to mind is Tracy Chapman. Shes strong, and sings lyrics I can really get in touch with. I also like that she seems grounded.

I love Tracy Chapman!!!!!!!
Here's another example of why Tyra has helped me so much. I'm watching her show right now and it's all about haviing curves is beautiful.....for some reason, when she says it, I can believe it. Why is that only Tyra Banks can get a message to me the curves are sexy???? __________________ |

I have a friend in RL who is the epitome of 'curves are sexy'. She probably weighs about 200lbs, but the way she carries herself exudes sexy.
I also posted in ED about my recent experience at a hot springs resort. It was very interesting to see women of all sizes and observe what made a woman 'sexy' or not. I came away with reinforcement that it has much, much less to do with physical size, but everything to do with how a woman carries herself, how open she appears to be, how easily she smiles... __________________ thatsallicantypewithonehand |

Yeah exactly. That's what I've been really working on, my confidence, from watching that talk show lol! I'm 180lbs. At my heaviest I was 225. I had gotten down to 150 but the weight came pouring on after my dx. So I'm just trying to get happy with the curves! BF doesn't seem to have a problem with it!
