I do buy French bras at Nordstrom, because it is a necessity for me to have support (cup F), but I never buy anything else - I get panties from VS on sale and do not wear camisoles. One of my women's group on FB has those lengthy discussions of which European and American lingerie brands the women members prefer. They say that even though only their H's see them in the lingerie, the expensive lingerie makes the clothed look better. I do realize that a good bra makes all the difference, especially from size D and up, but I am just curious how other things might make a difference. It is just a question out of curiosity, since I am currently penniless, but I want to know if these women are just showing off their ability to buy expensive items or that there is some truth to what they are saying. I do understand that under a silk dress lingerie would be important, but the women who post their lingerie tastes mostly work the kind of office jobs that would not have them trot around in silk dresses.

Just curious - is there truth to it or is it just an indulgence? I understand that the feel of expensive lingerie might be luxurious - get that. What I do not get is how expensive lingerie is so crucial for the clothed look.

I suppose they don't say how the lingerie makes the look better? Other than Spanx panties which don't have a pantie line to show through your slacks or support panties to minimize the tummy, I don't get it either.
Thanks for this!

In my opinion, it's the bra that makes all the difference. Some people just buy the matching panties to have the set. I have all these high-end bras for my "girls," but Hanes cotton panties. Lol Back when I was thin, I'd spring for the whole set. The panties didn't make my clothes look better, but knowing I was wearing something sexy underneath was sure a confidence booster! (Wish I could afford them now, 'cause I sure need confidence lately.)

Well then maybe Meghan Trainor has it wrong and it really is about the treble and not the bass !

Thanks for this!

No-no, not spanx or shapewear in general - they are comparing DNK, Calvin Klein, Intimissimo (sp.?), and some other French and Italian brands.

Well, obviously I am the wrong person to respond to this thread since I've barely made it past Hanes brand.

Well, I never had money for fancy stuff... but I would say it's more about the correct size than fancyness. Went to private school and endured lot of girls who squeezed themselves in incorrect sizes and it was not looking good.

Ugh....I always wanted to be small & luckily that's how I stayed. I hated wearing bra's from the beginning.... Always wore loose t's playing racquetball so if I didnt have a sports bra I chose to just wear my t with the shorts...no one could tell anyway.

Even horse riding I hate wearing bras. Wear my helmet & riding cloths..but hate bras. Luckily on my farm no one cares what I wear. I even have old undies that I wear working around the farm....no reason to destroy my new ones sweating while working...when they wear out I transition the newer ones into their place.

Too practical to waste money on something I really don't care about in the first place.

When you are an AA no one can see anything anyway. After several serions anorexia hospitalizations....hey there just isnt much there to waste money to support something that isn't there
