Hey ladies, do any of you have problems with depression worsening when you're close to and then in the midst of your period? Mine are irregular enough that i haven't really charted my moods with them, but for some reason this time it's kicking my butt. I'd been just mildly depressed beforehand, but the dark thoughts and moods aren't lifting so far and it's only day 2! I'm hoping they go away when it's over, but who knows.

Suggestions welcome!

Candy

CandyBear......YES!!!!! I never noticed PMS like I do these days......I've started diligently keeping track on a calander and writing the days in between periods. I get freakin psychotic now, not just irritable, but crazy.......scary thoughts.......worse depression.......the works. So YES!!!!! I understand!!!!!

Hello Candy.
My depression is linked to hormonal imbalance so I have to stay on hormonal stabilizers to keep the depression at bay. You can talk to your Dr about this and your Dr should be able to help with the hormonal depression There is now medication available for PMDD (Premenstrual Dys Disorder). If your imbalance and symptoms are regualar the Dr may give you something to take for PMDD (it is something like PMS) your Dr will know if you have PMDD and know what to do if you have it. Ihope things get better for you soon Take care soidhonia

I suffer from PCOS and believe this also plays a part in my depresion, but not the only part.

My depression worsens a couple of days before my period. If I'm depressed, it gets worse and if I'm not depressed, I feel more down than usual. I also have wicked insomnia the night before my period starts and I feel really edgy and prone to panic attacks during the first two days of my period. I also have IBS and I always get a nasty attack around the first day of my period. Basically, I just feel lousy for a couple of days.

Candybear:
I got depression when I was a teenager, a few years after starting having periods. Here's the radical thing: When I went on The Pill at 28, for four days a month I had crying spells for three hours every evening. A couple months of that and I got a clue...
I got Post-Partum Depression 14 years ago, because my hormones didn't go back after my baby was born.
I don't exactly know which part of my period (when the egg is released? what?) my depression is, because I got a hysterectomy a couple years after my son was born. But it seems as if I have four days a month, still, that I get suicidal during...

Good luck to you!
