I'm sure you have had days where you feel unattractive and old. How do you make yourself feel and look "beautiful" (in your mind)?

This is a tough one. Women are so hard on themselves when it comes to appearance. I have days when I feel beautiful, but there are other days when I look in the mirror and think, "Yikes! I look like a chimpanzee!" Sometimes I see a photo of myself that just makes me cringe and that feels awful.

I guess I always feel most beautiful when I'm doing something I enjoy and something that I'm good at. It makes me feel powerful and I feel like I'm shining at times like that.

I also feel beautiful when I'm with my 5 year-old niece. She looks at me like I'm the most beautiful woman in the world. She calls herself a princess and tells me I'm the queen. She loves brushing my hair and tells everyone she's going to look like me when she grows up.

On the surface, I find that taking the time to do my hair and my make-up and putting some thought into what I wear makes me feel more attractive. When I take that time for myself, it makes me feel that I'm worth the time and I'm treating myself well, so that makes me feel beautiful.

I was a pretty little girl and my parents told me I was pretty, but they always made an effort to tell me I'm smart and I'm strong and I'm talented too. I had a cousin whose mother only praised her for her looks and that cousin has very low self-esteem. My mum always said that physically beautiful women who feel that their looks are all they have going for them have a very difficult time when they start to see the signs of age and their physical beauty fading. So, she made sure that I was always aware of the things that REALLY matter -- like who I am inside. I'm very grateful to her for that.

I love being around girls maybe 5-6 years younger than me (that would be like 9-10 yrs old). They seem to look at me and try to be me. I feel good about myself knowing that they don't even know me but they see me and just like obvserving things I do.

I think that's a great feeling

You can set your forum view to show only favorites, so that you don't have to see it. Hope that helps.

Yeah I agree with the hair and makeup thing. Since I barely know how to curl my hair with an iron -- it always looks bad. Heh, but I straighten my hair or try different styles with it.

I also love sleeping late (10ish is late for me), eating fruit, taking a bath, put lotion all over my body, doing my nails, relax and wait for my hair to dry, do my hair, do my makeup, get dressed then go out. I always feel great when I have those days.

Also when I go tanning I feel good about myself - even though it's bad for you.

Oh, I love days like that!

P.S. I use a self-tanner (Banana Boat Everyday Glow in the winter). Tanning beds make me feel claustrophobic. I feel beautiful....

I don't prefer the self-tanners. They make my skin blotchy and orange. Even though some tanning-bed lotions do the same thing to you, mine makes my skin alot darker but a little orange inbetween my finger but they fake quickly. I sometimes even use in the winter, Olay or Neutrogina(sp?) lotions that have a self-tanner in them sometimes just to add a glow.

But I love days where I can do whatever I want. Shopping makes me feel in heaven. I dress nicely then go spend money on more clothing. I love that feeling, but my boyfriend gets angry when he buys clothes but I don't understand how!

I feel beautiful....
