I haven't found any magical cure but still looking. I usually end up taking a xanax and that helps with the nerves. I am also trying to exercise more, eat better, and drinking more water. Who knew this was going to be such a difficult time? If I knew...I would not have signed up for it!!

some people swear by evening primrose oil.

i swear by going on the pill. in my case it lightened my period significantly (from 5 full days to 3 light days) and eliminated swelling and cramping. that was when i was 16, however (i went on it to help with PMT and acne). i stopped taking it several years later but my periods never seemed to get as heavy again though the cramps and swelling came back some months. in the last few years i've noticed that my mood is considerably affected. i've just gone back on the pill again so i'll let you know how that is working out for me in a few months. i'm hoping it will help with / eliminate the mood swing right before my period.

interesting. you know why i ask-becasue i have been doing SUCH self work.... and when it coms in the period it seems like most of the time it doesn`t help. but maybe if i practice more not getting myself into that panic and %#@&#! on period it won`t be so hard in the end. ...

i don`t like effecting the mental wiht th phisical most of the time. but of course sometimes it`s needed.
i wonder if there is anything to help us have it easier on teh mental side.. ..
it`s just that pressur eand ANGER and all that ********. i don`t want to behave like that. and i CAN handle it!
but it`s WAY HARDER b4 periods....

hey. there are various things that affect our mood. physiological things in particular. the day after drinking (even if i don't feel hung over) i tend to feel dull and lethargic and 'blobby' and if i'm not careful i get myself wound up into a state where things really suck. if you are in the habit of regular exercise and you stop a similar thing can happen (part of that is about your body withdrawing from the natural opiates that are circulating in your brain with exercise). the kinds of foods i eat have quite an impact on my mood too (carbs comfort but can leave me feeling depressed and we all know coffee tends to increase anxiety).

drinking lots of water and exercising are meant to be great 'natural' ways of keeping things in check. exercising can help stretch out those muscles that are cramping.

part of it is probably trying to keep some kind of track of where you are at with respect to your period. sometimes just knowing that your mood is affected by that helps because you know it will pass in a couple days. a way to vent the anger (that might help) is some kind of exercise. kickboxing or running or something like that. it might be... that the anger is your bodies way of telling you to exercise??

Talk to your doctor....... Sarafem or Celexa are really great for the pre-period jitters and mood swings during.
.... can be taking all month long or 2 weeks of the month (before & during your cycyle).
.... some ppl take it just during their period.

AND - don't forget the old favorite of many - DARK CHOCOLATE (2 pc a day for the entire week).

This is on the table in my therapy sessions and it has been suggested that I might take an SSRI ..maybe zoloft for 5 days prior to starting my period. I have not gone there yet... but oh yeah... next week is on the horizon. I really hate it and it is significant.
