I just saw the 'girly doctor' I have had to change docs as mine retired so for the first time in many years my gyn doc is a woman. She is younger than I! Anyway I nearly jumped out of my skin the first time she touched me down there. I have been dealing with a lot of the old abuse but was really surprised at myself. Usually I only have a problem if the doc's hands are too cold. sigh

I hate going to the gyn. I went in 99 to have my tubes tied and didn't go again until a few months ago. Way too triggering....

I hate it, too. I have pain with intercourse, and having that speculum is NOT fun. Nor that scraping thing...*shivers*!

Nobody wants to do it, but it is good to know your vaginal health is good, or if it isn't, that you know so you can treat and hopefully cure it.

You can still have problems, though. Certain problems may not show symptoms early, or at all.

Star, how soon is your bf leaving? I have always usually been able to schedule an apointment quite quickly. I asked my b.f. of only 3 months to come to the gyno with me he wasn't thrilled to go but he said that he was happy that he was able to make me happy (he's now my fiance!). Any guy that you are sexually active with should be willing to go to the gyno with you other wise in my opinion you should find someone else. The dr even gave us ideas how to make sex less painful for me and do it in a fun way. Maven, I have the same problem, the exam does hurt me (not meant to scare you). The whole actual pelvic exam is probably LESS than 5 minues although it feels more like 15. I always feel so much better afterwards when I get my letter in the mail letting me know I'm clean and healthy so it's worth it! My fiance is great when we go... he knows exactly when to grab my hand, I don't even have to reach out anymore! Plus the dr is great about making it comfortable for BOTH of us. I encourage you to go! I hope what I've said hasn't discouraged you.

I think you should go. I had my first exam when I was 20 and it turned out I had clamydia :-(
(even though I always used a condom) Easily cured though. You can actually be a carrier of the disease for five years without knowing you have it, but untreated in worst case you can get sterile. I´ve had both male and female doctors (during my pregnancies) and i don´t mind either or. In Sweden we also do PAP smear tests every third year free of charge. __________________ I am a woman, soon 40 with two children. I live in Stockholm. |
