When i skipped my periods one month for the first time,i checked it with my gynaec. But that didnt bother her. Afterthat my cycles started to alternate between these different gaps. Any idea why this happens? Thanking in advance

How old are you? If you're in your 40's it could be the start of perimenopause which can play havoc with your period.

If not, it could be many different things, but if you're regularly irregular, if you know what I mean, it's probably not anything to worry about.

I wouldn't be. I was irregular all my life, right up to menopause. I'd vary between 21 days and 50, sometimes going for months without a period. I never wanted children, so fertility wasn't an issue for me.

Have you started any new meds recently? Some of them can really throw your period out of whack.

Nope, nothing wrong about that. It's very, very, very, very, VERY common and NORMAL to have irregular periods. Many, many, many women have irregular periods. There can be no reason why. I don't recall ever having a "regular" period myself, although I did have extreme abnormal pain, which is why I started birth control. If you are really worried, you can start birth control as that will regulate or (in my case) stop menstrual cycles.

kutt38, I am 20 and I experience relatively irregular period cycles. My cycles range from 27 days to 37 days and I don't precisely know when to expect my period. Also, my periods are associated with quite painful menstrual cramps and headaches... I'm considering starting birth control pills soon for this reason, plus their primary intended use of contraception is a benefit for me... Has your gynecologist suggested the option of birth control? What are your thoughts on it?

my doctor havent suggested any medicines yet. She asked me to undergo an ultrasound scanning after 2 months since something called haemorrhagic ovarian follicles were reported in my last ultrasound.she said its nothing to worry about. Today is my 38 th day. I have been getting cramps since 1 week. But no periods.

Just like splitimage mentioned above, if you were in your 40s this could be a sign of impending menopause. But since you are 23 it is worthwhile to investigate further. Try to not worry until your ultrasound. It's 2 months from now? At that time you'll know for sure if there's anything wrong at all. Until then any worrying won't do much good.

I have always had irregular periods, ever since I first got them when I was 13. I have been on birth control since I was a teen so now I somewhat control them myself, but not entirely - if I skip too many periods using birth control I will eventually just get my period anyway. The periods I have been off birth control (for many months last year, for instance) I have always had irregular periods and it was the same before I started it. I don't think it's anything to worry about.

I've always had irregular periods, the only thing regular about them seemed to be that they would usually skip every second month.

Eventually I missed my period for 6 months straight and then a bunch of tests later I was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome.

I think though for the most part it's probably not something to really stress about, as so many have said before some times it's just like that.
