I've been on and off the birth control pill for over 10 years. It started out because I had a period that lasted 6 months (I was severely ill by the time I spoke up). Now every time I try and get off the pill, I do t have a period at all. It's been about 7 months since I got off of the pill. My GYN gave me hormone pills to take for 5 days in hopes of a period (withdraw bleeding) and still nothing. I've read that this can happen after birth control use and that you should return to "normal" in a matter of 6 months-year. Has anyone else experienced this? Any pointers on what to try?

I'm just wondering what going on and off does to our emotional health. If I wasn't already crazy I'm sure that would drive me to be so. But...

You have a very good question. I think it depends a great deal on what the medication is. For example I'm on a depoprovera and I only get a single day period once a month.

The last time I went off birth control it really affected me. All kinds of cramping and it was a while before I cycled again properly.

I'm hoping it's nothing to do with my psych meds. I already quit taking my beloved risperdal because my dr said it causes prolactin levels to rise. I had a lot of cramping but no period after these hormone pills. I think the next move is blood tests. And they mentioned fertility docs. Not thrilled.

hi, RxQueen875
It can be quite frustrating if you are trying to get pregnant, yet have no period. Having a healthy cycle is step one for boosting your fertility naturally and being able to get pregnant. There are a myriad of reasons your cycle may be irregular such as stress, dietary deficiencies, low body weight, getting off of birth control pills, hormonal imbalance, perimenopause or other underlying issues.
