Well I confess I take terrible care of my body bec I'd like it to fall apart quickly (long story)
Anyway, 3 wks ago I happened to be doing a breast exam in bed & came across a hard lump in my breast that is toward the tip. Maybe the size of a pair of dice. I wasn't much concerned. Nothing runs in my family. I had a mammogram 5 yrs ago, but yes I did just call to make an appt for another although it's 2 months away. When I googled lumps in breasts it gave me many explanations of other things it could be. So again I'm pretty much not bothered about it.....but should I be? __________________ "Doubt is like dye. I found a lump at age 29. It scared me and I had a mammogram the same day. It turned out to be a solid cyst, which I am apparently prone to. I don't have my full medical history (I was adopted) and so each time I find one it has to be checked out and I panic.

Every year when I have my annual physical, my Dr. finds a new breast lump and sends me for a mammogram. So far they've all turned out to be nothing to worry about.
But it's good to get it checked out. splitimage |

My mom's sister found a lump in her breast and it turned out to be a benign fatty cyst. On the other end of the spectrum, my dad's sister found one and it turned out to be cancer. She had radiation and chemotherapy and the cancer is officially in remission. I guess they got it early enough or it was a less aggressive form than others.
Some women just naturally have lumps and bumps in their breast tissue, so it's important to always do regular self exams so you know what's normal and what's not. Good luck and fingers crossed that its nothing serious. __________________ MY BLOG IS NOW CONVENIENTLY LOCATED HERE!! I'm glad you are going to get it checked out! My only concern is that your exam is 2 months away. Keep a watchful eye on the lump for any changes. If you notice any changes, please notify your doctor right away and try to get in sooner.
I really hope it's just some typical "lumpy breast tissue" and nothing to worry about! |

I once found a lump in my breast, about 3 years after I'd stopped nursing my youngest. My doc felt it as well, and got me in for a mammogram very quickly. I don't know what it was, but that machine squeezed the heck out of my breast & the lump disappeared. Perhaps it was dried milk in a nodule or something??
Hope that you get in for your mammogram soon & find reassurance as well. Take care! __________________ "Only in the darkness can you see the stars." - Martin Luther King Jr. "Forgive others not because they deserve forgiveness but because you deserve peace." - Author Unkown |

When you made the appointment did you say you found a lump? It seems to me that your mammogram should be sooner rather than later. Call 'em back and get it moved up!

I have a really bad attitude regarding my health. Very poor. Which is why I let my thinking about this be so blasé.
Sometimes I think I should tell someone about it, but then I don't wanto worry anyone when it could really just be nothing at all. Less stress for everyone I think. I'm even hiding the appointment for the mammogram so no one in my family knows about it. I know for most this all may sound really stupid, but like I said I have a warped idea regarding my health. __________________ "Doubt is like dye. Definitely get it checked out. It may be just a cyst or it could be something far worse. Not knowing and living with the apprehension is far worse. These days there are so many ways of dealing with Breast Cancers that they are no longer life threatening if they are caught early
I am always careful and get regular mammograms. In my case breast cancer does run in my family. My mother died of breast cancer when I was 13. She had discovered a lump in her breast and it turned out to be cancer. She had let it go too long and it was already stage 4. Too late for her. She was only 48. I have been fortunate so far, but I do examine both of my breasts for lumps at least every month. With cancers if is much better to be proactive. There is a fairly high probability that it will be benign but you can not afford to not know. |

I too found a lump about 5 years ago. It was very scary to say the least. I had a mammo withe couple of days and surgery within a week. Glad to note the lump was not malignant

I've tried twice to move my appt up & still there is nothing available so I must wait till dec 16th.
I've read about cysts in breasts. I've had a fatty cyst under my arm since I was 30. It was cut out then grew back. Now I'm thinking it's just a cyst. They say in the breast it can feel like it has "sides" to it. Mine feels like that. It hasn't caused any pain or changed in size. I'm guessing it's been there awhile. I'm keeping the appt to make sure. Last nite I almost shared this w/my husband, but I really don't wanto worry anyone over something that "might" be there. I know my attitude sucks __________________ "Doubt is like dye. Once it spreads into the fabric of excuses you've woven, you'll never get rid of the stain." Jodi Picoult |

Oh I dunno, I had a lump 10 years ago and it turned out to be a harmless fibroadenoma. I would definitely keep the appointment if I were you but I'd try not to worry too much.
