Need some input here... As I typically have a pretty consistent period. From my experience on Seroqual last summer, when i upped the dose (i take 25mg, but sometimes went up to 50mg to help me sleep when stressed) i noticed my period was thrown out of whack and thought i was Preg (i was not, and am not now). I went down to 25 again, and it went back to normal.

About 2 mo's ago I started 10mg of Lexapro, which is a great med for my anxiety and mood. however, my last mo's period lasted almost 2 weeks!! (not heavy but not gone either). I have just gone to my Obgyn around the time I started Lex, since i was having really bad P cramping, she prescribed me high dose of Aleve which helps. My last Pap and general health is good. Had lots of blood work too and EKG in past few mo's, all good.

Anyway- Since starting the Lexapro, I am feeling better, got a new job, (and yes more stress,,) so since the last mo's long period, This month I am now a few days over due for my P..

I am not Preg, i took 2 tests. I was thinking it must be the meds. I started a new drug, plus for maybe a week or two, I was upping the Seroqual again to 50mg to help me sleep.

Its weird- b/c when I started Lamictal last year, it did not affect things. Perhaps I need to wait a week or so and see what happens... Im trying to avoid too many Dr trips.

Its so hard b/c I also want to stay healthy, I am 35yo, and thinking of having a baby in the next 2 years. So these kinds of issues are concerning to me and my boyfriend.

thanks for any feedback.

I don't have any advice, but I did want to mention that when I start or stop Seroquel, I always have spotting. Things generally go back to normal pretty quickly. I'm also on the pill and take it at the exact same time every day, so things are pretty regular, practically like clockwork.

Yup - probably the seroquel. When I started on Risperidone, it threw my cycle comepletely out of whack. I'd go months without a period and then get a really heavy one. It was really annoying because I never knew when a period was going to happen.

Good luck getting it sorted out.

Meds messing with period - anyone else? (Lexapro, Seroqual)

When I was on 25 mg of Zyprexa (olanzapine; usually the maximum dose is 20 mg, so it was a LOT) I didn't have my period for a couple of months. When I went back down to 20 mg it started again.
(And leave it to my male pdoc to call that 'nice' )

I didn't recall having period issues on Seroquel (I took doses up to 350 mg for about a year).

When I change the dose of any of my psych meds, the cycle gets affected typically spotting depending on the dose adjustment and depending on the pill. I can predict this like clockwork. I have also found this with the anti-seizure medications, that I take for other reasons but the same things happen. The BC pills are affected by the psych meds and vice versa. It is frustrating, even when the pill is taken like clockwork. I was warned about this by both my pdoc and OBGYN. Sometimes going to a different kind of pill can help offset this some, but changing bc pills cange cause a need to change doses of psych meds. It can be a vicious cycle, pun in tended.Talk to your doctor. Stress though has a potent affect on the body too and cannot be discounted, even when on the pill. Take good care.
