Does anyone know much about this disorder. I am going to bring it up with my PDoc next week. I go crazy about a week before every month. I get angry and blow up and everyone and everything, I get depressed to the point I get suicidal thoughts, irriatable, No concentration at all, ect. I visited a site to try to learn more. They said treatment is antidepressants, therapy. I am already seeing a therapist for Bipolar/Borderline. I absolutly positivly cannot take atidepressants. They send my moods to the moon and cause me to become moderatly psycotic. I am worried that this can't be treated.

I have heard of PMDD but never read about it indepth. I am not sure what the difference is between PMDD and PMS....do you?

I know that 10-14 days before I start I have increased symptoms like anxiety, burning tummy, restless nights, hot flashes, night sweats, headaches...etc. I have gotten worse in the last 3 years....really throws me off course in life.

I don't have the answer but just wanted to let you know I read your post and understand what you feel...

((((( twirls )))))) OOOOHHHHH do I understand!!! I saw my doc a little over a month ago for the same symptoms. I had tracked my periods for a few months and the days between were going from 28 to 26 down to 25 and my mental status was absolutely terrible. I would cry at the drop of a hat, blow everything out of proportion, yell at the cat, and I was SO freakin tired. And the nausea and breast tenderness made me think I was pregnant. Then the cramps would be so terrible and the bleeding sooo heavy. She put me on a low dose birth control. I've been on Aviane for the last month. This time, when the PMS hit, I could tell it was hitting but I wasn't insane. It was like normal PMS. And then the bleeding was lighter as well and the cramps weren't as bad. I can definitely say the birth control has saved my sanity. Just being on it a month, I already saw a difference with my cycle.

my daughter was taking an "off shoot" of prozac.....they re-marketed it and renamed it. i looked it up and it's so close that it's crazy..........i read that they were going to do this about two years ago and it has hit the market. it's called fem something......it's 20 mg of prozac.....and it helped her tremendously. i'm not doc, but i'd ask about a generic prozac....... Premenstural Dysphoric Disorder xoxoxo pat p.s. good luck to all......i'm through that stage, hysterectomy in my 30s.......

I saw my pdoc today. She agrees that I have this disorder, but she can not treat me for it. She said that she would not even pay someone to put me on any sort of anti depressant. Not even a low dose. (My pdoc likes to joke a little) Anyhow, everytime I have taken antidepressents I end up in the hospital with severe mania, hallucinations and delusions and other crazy stuff. She told me to see my obgyn because sometimes birth control can help.

YES... not only have I heard about PMDD - I have PMDD.

I have been taking medicine for it off and for about 5 years now and for the last year I have been on Celexa 20 mg every day (40 mg during my period) and LIFE is GOOD again.

Ask your doctor about Celexa or Sarafem for your PMDD.

You can do a search on PMDD on here just type it in the search box..... I have written on it before and I understand the suicidal thoughts that come one week out of every month for I was once there... ((( hugs ))).
