I've been on a low-carb, high-protein diet for like 4 months now and I've lost 30 pounds. I'm a lot bigger than you, though. I started at 250. It took me like a month to start seeing the weight loss. And it really didn't start kicking in until I added resistance training and cardio into my routine(:

I wouldn't panic or anything! There's lots of yummy stuff you can eat, and my dietitian has taught me that it's really about the net carbs, so even if something has like 30 carbs, if it has like 45g of protein its ok to eat!

Congrats on our weight loss! Thanks for the info. I'm eating carbs again. I'm no longer on a diet, but I am trying to eat whole foods and control my portions. I won't loose weight fast that way, but when I do, it'll probably stay off longer. Good luck with your weight loss! It's hard, but if we stick to it, we'll get to where we want to be eventually! Lifting weights is good! Muscle burns fat! I'll start using my weights and start walking more. I'm kind of forced to move more now that I just started working. I'm going to start a second job soon.

Hey Shy, I think the amount of work you'll be doing you may well find you burn the calories off, especially if you end up shop floor.

Think weights and walking is a great idea, basically anything you enjoy is good imo because you're more likely to stick to it.

I don't personally like idea of diets which cut out food groups, carbs are essential for energy, just make sure you balance them out with lean protein.

Hi, it probably will. Now that I'll be working two jobs soon, I'll loose weight w/o really trying to hard to- I have to wait for the background check to clear and that might take a week. I got hired for a deli position for a grocery store!

I cannot agree more.

Also, I doubt that you are doing the right thing eating stevia and foregoing fruit. Stevia still contains carbs, even though it does not contain calories. With fruit, you get HYDRATION, which always helps - see above, plus FIBER, which binds sugar, plus vitamins and other good stuff, and you feel full. Stevia does not do any of that for you - it just makes the taste sweet. I dropped it in favor of real fruit.

I also need to lose 80 lbs after having lost 10 lbs, but I am hopeful that I will lost at least some if not all the way. But I do much more exercise than you do, and my skin looks tight and toned. If you could add swimming, go for it - in my experience it does wonders to skin tone.

Agree with everyone else. A calorie - is a calorie- is a calorie. Doesn't matter where it comes from. You can actually improve your cholesterol by eating healthy, yet gain weight.

From what I've read about keto diets:

1. Stevia is low-carb, certainly when compared to sugar. Not to mention there have been some studies suggesting it can aid with blood pressure and even has anti-inflammatory properties. It's practically the opposite of sugar in terms of health effects, while still giving similar sweet taste. So it's not really that empty a substance.

2. Modern fruit might contain fiber, but is LOADED with sugar (thus carbs). The fact that it's "natural", glucose-fructose sugar doesn't matter, it will still cause inflammation and be processed by the body like white candy sugar. I say "modern" because people basically domesticated and selectively bred these plants to be as much as eight times larger and sweeter than their ancestors. If I can find that "what fruit used to look like" infographic I'll link it, or you can look for it yourself (sorry, I'm lazy). Berries are pretty much acceptable, but stuff like apples, oranges, or bananas? Truly "nature's candy" according to dieticians.

Pretty much any nutrient you can get from fruit, you can get from vegetables or, at worst, supplements. Fruit isn't necessary, though it is tasty.

Modern fruit does contain fiber. The farm-grown berries are unpleasantly sweet compared to the woods varieties, but still contain fiber and liquids.

All I can say is I'm naturally slim and I eat everything in moderation - one thing I don't do is eat convenience foods. If you cook for yourself you know what you're eating.

I eat loads of fruit btw.

Hi everyone, I know all of this. Eating to much fruit isn't good as it has carbs and sugar in it. I try to limit myself to two servings a day. I try to eat healthy and eat at home most of the time. It's a struggle though as I love carbs. And I always drinks lots of water. I also know a calorie is a calorie and overeating anything isn't good.
