I have an issue. I need a long term birth control to get through the next 4 years of this cluster**** that's going to happen in the US. The prob is that I take carbamazapine (tegretol/equetro). Carbamazapine makes a lot of BCs ineffective. Right now I'm on the shot and have had no issues. I thought about the nexplanon implant but carbamazapine makes it ineffective.
Now i'm thinking about getting the mirena IUD. Does anyone have one? I heard the insertion hurts, but it can't hurt worse than the HSG test I had when I was doing all the fertility testing. Does anyone have any mood issues with it? My pdoc scanned some pages for me and they said most people have mood issues with BC in their teens and early 20s. Personally I'd like them to just do a hysterectomy, but I know they won't do that because there's no problems. I have PMDD and I just do so much better when I don't have my period and with depo I have no period. I'm finally calm all the time. It's quite nice. |

Never had an issue with it mood wise and I'm also on an injectable.
Can't comment on safety though,as my bf and I always double up the protection coz we really don't want any surprises. |
