having a pregnancy scare.... I am on birth control pills. I had been taking antibiotics for strep throat (10 day dose), finished the antibiotics and it was time to start a new birth control pack. On the 6th night I forgot to take the pill, but took it when I woke up. the next night, 7th night, I had sex with a condom but it fell off unnoticed and my boyfriend came inside me. This happened on April 13, 2017. Its been 11 days (today is the 24th) so it is too soon for a pregnancy test, but my period is due in a week (May 1st). As of now I have sore nipples and breasts, and cramping on my ovaries. Sometimes shooting though to my back. what are my chances of pregnancy with the factors of my situation??

Most women only have 2-3 days where conception is likely, which is why some couples end up using charts and ovulation tests ect to pinpoint the most fertile point so fingers crossed the odds are in your favour.
Also bear in mind that stress can really affect your monthly cycle so that your current situation which I assume is really causing you a great deal of stress could actually delay you period etc so easier said that done try not to get worked up about things. I had a pregnancy scare in my early twenties that still haunts me and I really wouldn't want you to experience similar so here is my story..... I was worried and like yourself was very aware when my next period should arrive I decided that I would buy a test that could be done a day or so before my period was due and to my horror it came back positive. Terrified and fair to say hysterical I headed out to buy more tests, thankfully I bought a different brand and when I took the new test it was negative. What I hadn't realised is that for some home pregnancy tests the hormone change that happens a day or so before you get your period can confuse the test and you can get a false reading. Don't forget there is always support available at pc, take care. __________________ |

Antibiotics nullify the effects of birth control. Just an FYI. I'm not trying to scare you, just saying that it happens. Not all antibiotics do though. Here's a link that lists the meds that interfere with birth control.

Welcome to PC. You can buy a pregnancy test at a drug store and take it, even this early.

The earliest you can take a test is 5 days before so if you're due 1st May then you could take it today - but the earliest you take a test the least reliable the result would be (you could get a false negative) because the preganancy hormone (HCG) is only tiny amounts at that point.
Statistically I'd say it's low chance you'd be pregnant but any time you have intercourse (even with protection no method is 100%) there's statistically a chance. |

Even though I was on birth control, I accidentally skipped/took it late a couple times. I did eventually become pregnant, and because my boyfriend is very supportive in that. It was hard to cope and hear that information from my doctor... I did get the procedure done, which gave me a lot of grief and anxiety.
I'm not trying to scare you, but I hope you do feel prepared for what might happen. I hope you have a good support system around you, whom you can rely on. It's difficult and stressful, but hopefully the test will come out negative. Symptoms of periods do mimic the symptoms of pregnancy. I don't know how regular/irregular your periods are and how bad your symptoms typically become, but the symptoms you mentioned are often common for periods as well. |
