i'm 50 and don't have any signs of being peri-menopausal yet. periods are just as heavy and long as always were, no mood swings (beyond the normal) and no hot spells etc. is this normal for my age, women i know irl tell me it's not and i should go see doc. and say what? just curious for opinions plz. :hug;

My mom was either placed back on the pill or continued her prescription at 49/50. I remember she was in the process of going from being a widow to remarrying and she was surprised that her doctor told her that even at her age babies are still possible.

So no, to me, 50 isn't unusual to not have started menopause yet.

As far as heavy cycles, if unusual and 'soaking through', then of course, see what it is. Fibroids could cause that.

Yes, it's normal. I didn't have any particular perimenopausal signs at age 50.

I didn't even start menopause until I was about 52 and that's when my periods started getting really light and I'd miss some on occasion. Now that I'm 55, I haven't had my period for a year and a half so I think that I'm in full blown menopause. Luckily, I don't get very many hot flashes! Those are really tough to take!

Don't you have an annual physical? I'd think that your Doctor would just bring it up, but if not, you could just say what you said here or write her a note and give it to her. I know for me, we have an online system where I can email and I'd just sent an email with your concern, if that's a possibility.

Good luck!

Yeah, if you have any concerns, I'd bring it up with your regular doctor. It's what they went to medical school for after all.

I read that on average a woman usually starts menopause at the age of 52, Usually it happens between the age of 45-55. Not sure if I am starting the beginning of menopause as my periods have gone up the wall (I am 46)

I am 50 and still getting my periods. The only indication I have of a change is I seem more affected by temperatures. For instance it is 22C and I am freezing. At 30C I am sweltering hot.
