Hi everyone, my period has always lasted 7 days, with a couple of "blobs" coming out a day after, but this month it's been a week and a half, and bits are still coming out. I'm under extreme stress, with my chronic digestive illness and my fear around it, and the past that haunts me (of which I blame myself), a future that looks very empty and bleak, and a present that is a mixture of groundhog day and feeling like an avoidant, childish, dependent failure. Can stress be doing it? I've completely panicked wondering why there are still bits coming out. I do have OCD, health anxiety, thanatophobia etc. Also, I keep feeling wet, and there is either discharge or other water coming out. I do have problems peeing, I'm not sure all of my pee comes out, it often feels like there's more. I wonder if pee is coming out and everything is being "flushed" down there? Does some blood linger in the vagina, that gets cleaned out in some way? (Sorry if this sounds icky and crude!) I'm very worried and thoughts are going round and round. Also, I'm now underweight, as my digestive illness has put me on a very limited diet, I don't even feel able to drink very much, so I feel dehydrated.

I have to admit I've been crying with the worry.

Oh dear, it sounds to me like you need to see a doctor. If for no other reason than to put your mind at ease.

Okay, first of all you are most likely just fine. Stress certainly can affect periods.

That said, it would be a great idea to speak with your gynecologist or GP. You just might have fibroids (which are benign, but can cause bleeding issues). And, like Shazerac posted, seeing your doctor would put your mind at ease and stop the cycle of stress and anxiety.

I'd strongly look at diet and your water intake. Drink 8 plus glasses of water a day and see how drastically your period will be more subtle. Of course I do hope you consult with a doctor for best advice. You may want to look up the term menotaxis, has to do with heavy periods because of diet

To add, my intention was to write the term Menorrhagia. Menotaxis is a term used to define prolonged bleeding.
Thanks for this!

The more we drink water the more our bodies seem to crave it. I find it helpful to drink hot water with no tea or coffee in it as it doesn't seem to be so hard on my gut.

We can only guess as to what it may be and even then we can't do anything to address the issues that may or may not be occurring. Please give yourself the biggest gift of all and make an appointment to see your medical professional.
