so i told my OBGYN that I have had tons of ruptured ovarian cysts and crazy bleeding all the time. I gained weight, have acne now for the first time ever and my hair is growing ultr fast and starting to grow on my neck (gross!). so I said "i have poly cystic ovary syndrome" and told her that i know the symptoms and i have all of them. plus my last blood test showed high levels of testosterone. so they did another blood tests and didnt even check my androgens!!!! they checked my hCG betw subunit to see if i was pregnant or had an ectopic pregnancy, my TSH (which is on the low end), my prolactin which is normal, my hemoglobin and hematocrit which are both on the high side. and then told me everything was normal!!!! i cant believe they never checked my freaking testosterone. they just totally ignored everything i said. not to mention in my ultra sounds i have ovarian cysts and a polyp attached to the wall of my uterus.
i swear sometimes it feels like i know more than my freaking doctors do. how hard is it to see weight gain, acne, ovarian cysts, uterine polyps, excess hair growth and think PCOS!!! geesh. sorry i just really needed to vent. because basically im going through hell every single month and the people who im paying their damn salaries ignore everything i say. i have been going through this for over 2 years. i just want a doctor to take what i say seriously for once. yes im 20 but im not a friggen idiot. |

i think id like that. im about to just go to a family practice and tell them whats up. ive been to 3 different obgyns now. the first one told me that i needed to go on a diet and thats why i was gaining weight even though she told me my testosterone was high. the same one told me acne was just normal (for a 20 year old a decade after hitting puberty) and this one is just talking about changing birth control when ive already been on 3 and nothing has worked.
it just amazes me that women get told so much more than men "its psychological". there have been several studies done where women and men will go to a doctor for the same thing and women will be told at alarming rates that its psychological and men will get physical treatemnet on the spot. just drives me crazy. its very hard to live in america if you have any ethics or common sense ive noticed lol |

Grrrrrrrr WOW!!!!!!!!
I agree, you and Inny should band together and go someplace and demand CARE. Doctors work for US, not the other way around. I am so blessed with my doc.....when I go see her she asks what tests I want run. She and my neurologist both understand that I know my own body and that they're only there to aid me. Fire those arrogants docs and find one who will listen!!! Grrrrr, here's hoping you find good docs. __________________ |

((((inny & salukigirl)))) i'd love to do some ****-slappin on those arrogant docs. i've had my fair share of them, too. had to fight really hard to find docs who would listen to me. so sorry you have to go through all that bs. get me in a bad mood, i'd drop a nuke bomb on them. lol

so i had another doctor's appt today only with a family doctor, not an obgyn. i told the nurse over the phone when i made the appt "i have pcos and nobody will do anything about it." and i went in there, told her all my symptoms and that everything fit in with pcos. so she finally listened to me! yay! she wrote me a prescription for a higher estrogen birth control to offset the testosterone, did more blood work on my hormones and said if my blood work looks normal, come back in 2-3 months for a check up and if its not normal shell refer me to another obgyn thats not the one i have been going to. i feel so relieved.
i wanted this to get taken care of now because i know it can cause infertility if gone untreated. it has been so aggravating and has taken over 2 years but i finally got someone who understands what im saying. i should get my blood work back in about a week and then ill find out if another birth control will be enough or if i need either insulin lowering and testosterone lowering meds. YAY! victory for the normals! lol. i hope this gives everyone who participated in this thread a little bit of hope that some doctors arent totally corrupt and evil yet. (yet being the key word) |
