Aw man!
So I was running to catch the bus the other day (missed it because I should say it was a light jog rather than a run), and later that day, I felt like I had pulled the muscles in both sides of my groin. I figured I was just out of shape, so I ignored it. Now, almost 6 days later, the pulled muscles haven't gotten better but rather are worse, and my, um, bones around my pubic area are hurting, too. I stumbled upon a post in my pregnancy support forum, and it appears that this might actually be pregnancy related, and not pulled muscles after all! Have any of you had this: Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction? I just read some articles online about it and it seems to be what's going on with me. I have an ultrasound scheduled for Wednesday, but I'm going to call my OB in the morning just in case. Has anyone had this? What did they do for you? I read that both accupuncture and swimming could be beneficial, and both sound good to me right now. __________________ thatsallicantypewithonehand |

your pubic symphysis is the area that connects both sides of your hip bones basically. some women get this and some dont. sometimes it can be associated with the baby being in the wrong position like breech birth so its good that youre getting an ultrasound. The best way to treat it is probably going to a chiropractor.
a lot of doctors wont even acknowledge this kind of pain so you might need to go to more than just your ob before anyone actually helps you. im guessing that you might get ideas on how to help the pain but not actually treat it. have you had any previous problems or had any other babies before this one? if you go to a doctor and they dont tell you what you want to know then go to a different one. seems like doctors always try to downplay the pains of pregnancy. calling braxton-hicks contractions a mild discomfort. but we know better than to call it that lol. good luck in your search |

Thanks ladies!
I'm only 18 weeks (and this is my first) so it seems really early to have problems like this. I have a call in to my OB and an ultrasound on Wednesday. I'll keep you posted! __________________ thatsallicantypewithonehand |

Here's another nice whole UK site w/support group for it:
http://www.pelvicpartnership.org.uk/index2.html Hope it's not that but just a result of your jog and that it gets better over time. Keep us up to date after your Wednesday appointment. __________________ "Never give a sword to a man who can't dance." ~Confucius |

Thanks - I talked to my OB's assistant and indeed they dismissed it as round ligament pain that perhaps radiated downward. But, they made an appointment for me anyway for Thursday, the day following my ultrasound.
My OB is terrific and has over 30 years of experience, so I'm hopeful that it's just her assistant who hasn't heard of this. Or maybe I really don't have this SPD thing after all... It's not excruciating - just annoying because it's making me limp and I just bought new snowshoes to take the place of skiing/snowboarding for this winter, but there is no way I can try them out feeling as I do. LMo, I didn't know it was called that, but I had it with two of my boys. The doc and books that I read at the time said that it's your bones adjusting to the weight of the baby. It doesn't all happen during childbirth.
With my oldest son, the farther I got into the pregnancy, the more it felt that I had a crack in my public bone and the two halves would rub. It hurt a bit, but was nothing to make a great deal about. Your muscles are stretching, too, so soreness isn't out of the question at all. One of my DsIL, ("C") had quite a bit of bone and muscle soreness, too, with the first two. Have you thought of taking any birth classes? My other DIL teaches them and I had them with my youngest. Right now would be a great time for you and hubby to get started. They teach you all about your body changes as well as the baby's... and a whole lot more. __________________ Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. |

this would explain the drastic pain I have had that is in the muscles and bones down there.
sometimes i get this burning sensation right on the pubic bone edge, doc said its ligaments most likely. |

Wow - good to know that I'm not alone (but I'm sorry you guys either have or have had it!). I went to my OB and she "prescribed" physical therapy, but honestly, I find PT to be cumbersome for what you get out of it. I can never find anyone who takes evening appointments. It's a little better now than it was 2 weeks ago, but I also know now that I have to get up and stretch often if I've been sitting, and the acupuncture and prenatal yoga have helped. I'm also going to try to find a bigger bathing suit and give swimming a try, although in general I am not a big swimming fan. Sounds refreshing these days, though.
Rainbowzz... hope you feel better! I'm so happy about your little boy! __________________ thatsallicantypewithonehand |
