Hi PC ladies,

I am getting married in one month and just got my period today, which means, I may get it at the exact time that we leave.... which would mean I could possibly have my period on my own wedding day. EEK!!!! What a potential nightmare.

Has anyone ever heard of inducing your period through natural means, and if so, what has worked??

Thanks so much!!!

I have heard that Pineapple does it. But it never worked for me. Personally I found I was able to delay my period a bit by eating more food / carbs. But that is me. No objective proof for me. The opposite is also true.. eating less can sometimes seem to shorten my non period window.

Congrats on the wedding.

You can buy a pill that will stop your period for a few days. My daughter bought it when she was going on holiday and it does work, not sure if they have it in America though.

Thank you!

I hadn't read about pineapple yet, but I'll look into it! I am dieting & eating less in general, so hopefully that won't have the opposite effect, though I've been dieting since Jan.

I believe the morning after pill induces a period, thus preventing pregnancy. Don't know if you want to go that route though.

Personally my period has always been every 4 weeks, no matter what I do.

Hmm.... now that's a pill I've heard of before.. I admit I had to take it once, and it did induce my period, the very next day. Hmm... thank you so much!

Congratulations golden eve on getting married in a month

You put a smile on my face, I had no idea

I don’t have an answer to your question, I seem to recall my period arrived promptly (early.(?) ) the day after I got married

Possibly try being around other women on their periods, it's called menstrual synchrony

Menstrual Synchrony: Do Girls Who Go Together Flow Together? – Science-Based Medicine

My sister and I used to get periods around the same time.

Thank you! Although I probably won't be able to pull that one off unfortunately. Thank you though!

My MIL swears that tonic water brings it on early..

Shortly after I ate a whole can of pineapple, I went into labour, so it must do something to us in that region!

just saw this thread....

eating different kinds of foods will not stop a female reproductive cycle... if it was that easy women would not need "the pill" or female condoms or having their male counter parts wear a condom, or getting their tubes tied. with the hundreds to thousands of years of actual research on the human body and the reproductive cycle it all comes down to eating foods does nothing to stop a female animal or human reproductive cycle.

human reproductive cycle 101, yea you remember all those health classes and home ec classes film strips on the human body and having periods and how to care for that time of the month...its basic a human female body "ovulates" about two weeks before their next period. then there is a space of 4-6 days during ovulation when a woman can get pregnant. after that the egg is no longer viable for fertilization (my wife and I have done the IVF process for having our children.)

during this process the uterus lining thickens and if the egg is not fertile the uterus thins out again by softening and letting go of the excess blood.

there is no foods that will stop the ovaries from producing the eggs, there is no foods that will prevent the ovaries from releasing an egg, there is no food that will prevent a womans uterus from thickening or thinning its blood flow.

what controls this process is the hormones..

GnRH
FSH
LH leutinizing hormone
Estrogen
Progesterine

and lots of other things too..

my point is if you try and stop a period though trying to find the right foods it wont work...

example did you know that FSH hormone comes from the pituitary gland...which is connected to things like the endocrine system, the thyroid, hair growth, kidney and liver functions....

in order to stop a period using food you would actually have to stop eating at all. yea thats why people who are anneurexic dont usually have a period (due to not getting their nutrients needed to keep their body functioning, )

you try and shut down the period you end up messing up your kidneys, your liver your endocrine, thyroid..

through IVF I learned that there is only one healthy way to shut down a persons period safely with out affecting other bodily functions that are also connected to the reproductive system is through a doctor...

my wife and I had to synchronize our reproductive process with our donor process. we did it by the doctor prescribing "the pill" in the right dosage for me and my body, then I took the colored pills until it was time for me and my body to enter ovulation. then I started on the 7 odd colored pills in "the pill"pack that was prescribed for me.

my suggestion is if anyone wants to have a few days to a week with re synchronizing their periods to contact their OBGYN and talk with them, they will be able to prescribe "the pill" in the right quantity and dosage that you need.

doing it by yourselves with fad food items that affect a persons whole body. is a very dangerous thing. you can mess up more than just your reproductive systems since that is connected to other systems in your body.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply!

I am not trying to stop my period though. I am trying to make it come SOONER.... induce my period. I want it to come before I leave for my wedding/honeymoon.

food wont do that either sorry. wish it was that easy my wife and I would have had an easier time with the IVF process.

what you can do is contact your OBGYN explain what you want to do. they will be able to explain to you how to use "the pill" to adjust your cycle so that by the time you are getting married and on your honeymoon you wont have to worry about having your period during that time...

not sure if you understand how "the Pill" works...

its a pack of pills usually in a nice colored case. there are two different colored pills in the pack and one pill for every day of the month. you take one color for a majority of the monthly cycle (these are the ones that make it so you dont have a period during those days of the month) then at the end of toe monthly pack there are usually between 5 and 7 off colored pills. those pills are taken during the days you have your period...

example say in two months Im going camping and dont want to have my period during those days. I would adjust taking the pills in a way that during the camping days I would be on the colored pills not the off colored pills.

I would still be taking my pills just differently to adjust my period cycle so that during the week that Im camping Im not having my period.

my point is if you were on the pill you can set your cycle to match so that during your wedding and honeymoon you are taking the colored pills that are the no period pills. then when you are back from your wedding/ honeymoon take the yes period time pills (the off colored pills).

if you talk with your OBGYN they may be able to prescribe you in the multipack (3 month pack ) and explain to you how to adjust your cycle for what you need with out messing up the rest of your body.

Thank you so much! I don't know if I have enough time now though? We leave in almost one week. One week from Sat. Maybe I'll call my doctor's office just to see.
