I decided to pluck up the courage to go to the doctors and get my smear test done. I had it done this monday. The nurse was lovely and explained everything to me. As she started to put the thing in, it started to get a bit unbearable, I put my knee down, then the nurse told me to breathe. Like It felt like was a bit out of control. The brush didn't hurt but the thing did, I was really nervous beforehand, so probably part of the reason. I have seen on google how other women had similar experiences. I'm actually scared to go in the next 3 years. I'm all for getting checked out but if I have to go through pain, it's not worth it. It should be a bit uncomfortable but not to the point, it's like knives in your thingy. Has anyone else gone through the same experience or is it just me?

Good for you for going and getting it done. I too find it extremely painful, so dread getting it done - I have to go again in 2 years.

The only good part about, from my perspective at least is my Dr., knows it hurts me so she's really fast about it.

I'm the opposite, the speculum doesn't bother me but the brush does for some reason, not sure why. It makes my toes curl.

I think what you describe is so common, definitely talk it over next time, if there's a nurse you find more approachable then so much the better.

I don't experienced pain with pelvics, but my mother always did, and my (adult) daughter definitely does. I believe that pain during an exam is more common than not. I fine that deep, whole breathing is relaxing during an exam.

I'm ok with it being inserted and the brush didn't hurt but it's when she opened my vagina up to see the cervix. I was ovulating and I read apparently that might cause some pain. The pain is hard to describe, I felt like being out of control.

It's nice to know I'm not alone.
