I've been taking continuous birth control for some time now which helped although it was supposed to completely stop the periods but never did.

Now it's not helping at all. I'll have a 9=10 day very heavy period then a week to week and half without then the bleeding starts again. I never know when I'm going to bleed and sometimes, I'll have some light bleeding for a day in between. I cannot predict this.

I've had this problem sometimes even worse for years. I'm in my thirties, even if different birth control pills help for a while they eventually stop working. I used to go to my family doctor to deal with it but the past couple of years I have been seeing a Gynecologist.

The OB/GYN says that the IUD is supposed to make periods shorter and lighter and just once per month. I was supposed to have a consultation about the IUD in late June then for some reason I don't know it was rescheduled for yesterday Monday.

But that had to be rescheduled due to me having COVID which I have tested negative for since last Thursday although my mom has it now. She's going to test today to see if it's gone.

The soonest they can get me in is August 17th and I'm just hoping it doesn't fall through again. I had to wait for at least three weeks for the original appointment that didn't happen.

That's not for the actual IUD appointment to get it put in this is just the consultation.

I was anemic when my Family Doctor tested me last month so I'm on iron. I didn't get an appointment with the Family Physician until August 19th because I thought I'd be seeing the GYN much sooner and I thought that she could order blood work if needed.

My Family Doc is retiring after August and is therefore booked now with people trying to get in before the retirement.

My mom and I have been looking elsewhere for primary care which is hard to find someone good and willing to take us since we have Medicare and Medicaid. (We're both young for Medicare but we are disabled)

I've already been checked with ultrasounds and bloodwork multiple times for endometriosis, Fibroids, tumors etc... and they've never found anything. So the Gynecologist says it's hormones and genetics.

My mom hemorrhaged with her periods although they weren't every month, and they would last 7 days or more when she did have them.

It was that way from the time she started as a teenager until she had a partial hysterectomy nine years ago in her 50's after she finally went into detail with her doctor instead of just saying she had heavy periods.

My Grandma had a heavy period every month for 10 days and it was so painful that in the days when doctors made house calls a doctor would come to the house and give her a shot to put her out.

My Aunt eventually had endometriosis and my half-sister had fibroids.

I'm hoping the IUD works but the last time we discussed in the spring I asked if I could be sedated because having it put in the thought causes panic. The GYN said yes but I don't know if she remembers. I'll have to remind her and hopefully she says yes.

I'm having anxiety and depression over this, and I have PMDD and other mental problems on top of it.

I'm sorry that this is so long.

I had an iud it stopped my periods but also I'm late 40s so menopause could have started. I did remove the iud due to personal reasons. period still gone. had two in 6 months.

I had the Merina one with reduced periods after 3 months. The copper one I had made periods worse, almost had a hysterectomy but refused it and after removal things were fine.

I'm sorry your appointment has been delayed. Let's hope the next one won't be. Meanwhile, can you check about getting a second opinion or a sooner appointment? I hate for you to worry....

I saw the Gynecologist yesterday and saw family care last week. Next week the OB/GYN is going to implant Nexplanon in my arm which is likely to help. Family care mentioned it to me last week to talk to the GYN about and the GYN said that would be a better option with less risks than the IUD since I've never been pregnant. I'd rather do the implantation in the arm than the IUD unless it doesn't work.

If there are any problems or I change my mind she can take out easily.

She said that 20% of women have their periods completely stop with this, an additional 60% say it shortens and lightens their periods, so that's 80% total. Also, the remaining 20% have long periods but they are not heavy. Even though the long periods aren't heavy I still hope I'm not among those.

I'm hopeful and it lasts for three years. No more taking a pill everyday which stopped working for my periods anyway.

Also, she ordered lab work, and she got the results today and I'm no longer anemic, so iron is helping but my iron is still low, so I need to continue taking the iron.
